A Broadband Question

Hi MoneyMiser. I have been strongly advised by many to keep BT as my phoneline provider and to simply rent the line of them for £10.75 per month.
    Use Saynoto0870 to avoid 084/087 numbers. ;)
  • Wow I got a lot of good feedback from people via this thread and thanks to all who have helped me thus far.

Speaking hypothetically, if I was able to end my BT broadband contract tomorrow what would people suggest that I should do in order to get a cheaper quartly phone bill, taking into account I use the phone line primarily for broadband and the past couple of quartly phone bills the cost of calls has only amounted to around £13.

    Thanks again.

The £15 BB&talk package is with Virgin, see the links in my first post. You are still probably going to have to pay the quarterly line rental with BT whoever you go with (unless cable/llu is an option), so the scope for savings isn't massive, but a slightly cheaper BB service, along with reduced phone bills from the bundled phone packages will help.

Also the BB packages tend to be better value than BT

If I changed to this package and only used the phone for landline UK calls during weekends and evenings and by using BT as my line provider my bill should be about £77 (Are my calculations correct?) If my calculations are correct that would mean my bill has been reduced by £30 per quarter, not bad savings.

Are there any negatives I should know about this package with Virgin?

I was in the middle of editing my previous post, not sure if you've seen it all...

Not that I know of, but TT would still be £17 cheaper per quarter if you can get it at your exchange.

The BB with many providers can get a bit sluggish between 5-11pm, that's the only downside of prices coming down, and more people using ADSL at once.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • More good feedback thanks.

I have one concern, on another part of the phone board it states clearly that if a user is seeking a different and cheaper package they should continue to use BT as their phone line provider. (I think it was Heinz among others who said this). However if I switch to either talk talk or Virgin, I will be breaking this rule.

Incidentally I just checked and where I'm located I cant get 'Talk Talk' is there a way of checking whether or not I am eligible where I am to receive broadband from either Virgin?

    Thanks again.
