Transferring Nokia N95 contacts, calendar, data etc to smartphone
Options
Hello all,
I'm looking into (finally...) changing my faithful Nokia N95 to a smartphone. (Not sure which model of smartphone, but not an iPhone!)
I'd like to transfer everything to my new device, whatever that might be, and was wondering if anyone has any experience of how/if this can work? Is it a reasonably straight-forward process? Keeping the calendar details are very, very important...
Many thanks for reading, any recommendations or advice would be hugely appreciated!

I've not done exactly what you want but I have the following thoughts.
Nokia phones of that generation could be synced to Microsoft Outlook (not Outlook Express) by a bit of Nokia software.
It required clear thinking to use but that might get the contacts, calendar etc onto a PC.
If you then used Outlook in exchange mode with GMail that would get everything into the Google products and from there (or Outlook) you should be able to get stuff to your (non Apple) smartphone.
As a one step solution http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/ looks worth investigation.
Having had a few "bad calendar experiences" in the past I strongly recommend some form of backup before you start !0 -
use gmail?
if so use roadsync to sync your contacts to gmail and then you can sync them to the android device0 -
Cheers for the reply digp - my email is actually with Hotmail, but I do have a Google account so this could work... However do you know if this would also sync the calendar etc? (I have about four years worth of notes stored and would really like to keep them as they are!)0

The N95 is a smartphone! I know that the Nokia Lumia phones have a transfer app (much like your N95) which will deal with all that.
Post again when you have decided which phone you want and someone will no doubt be able to offer more help.0 -
Hi buscape, thanks for your reply. Sorry, I should have made clear that I know the N95 is a smartphone, but it's now pretty dated given what modern touchscreen mobiles are capable of.
I hadn't really considered a new Nokia model as the company seem to be on far-from-sure footing at the moment... I'm not a fan of Apple's penchant for incompatibility, so was leaning towards an HTC or Samsung.
All this said, the transfer of calendar details is of huge importance to me, so maybe Nokia is the way to go...? As I say, any advice or recommendations would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks again!0 -

Download Nokia Data Suite (or OVI suite) as it may be called now
Use this to sync your calandar and contacts
When you get the new phone use the data suite of thenew phone to work the other way
I had a N95 and now ise a N86, won't go with a new phone atall- I actually bought 4 other N86's on ebay to keep things alive for a while.
I like the N86 as you can backup to the memory card
If you buy a decent (new) nokia it will have a 'data transfer' utility to transfer the contacts and calendar
ps
Back up the Nokia N95 before you do anyhting- do it to 2 places (a usb drive and a PC file)baldly going on...0 -
The Nokia Windows Phones aren't compatible with Nokia Suite, you have to use Zune.0

Install Nokia Mail for Exchange, set up your Google account with it and it will sync contacts and calendar entries to the cloud.
Then sync them with your new phone, and keep them synced for future changes.
Brilliant system.0
