Apps are a bit over hyped, why use the BBC news app when you just go to the website. The Santander App, no better than the website. F1 live timing App £20 per year, live timing on web site FREE (have to use laptop because it don't work on iPad). There are some good games (additive) but apps are over hyped, face book app no use the site.
  • It took me a few weeks to get used to mine, but now my Lappy, sits unloved and unused by me! There are still things I don't like about the ipad, like no card slot to download pics from your camera. Well, I can't have everything!

Hate my OH's IPad. It makes me feel sickly, like travel sick feeling. Couldn't get myself to like the keyboard either.

    http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/learn/

Apple Stores have free workshops for Ipad etc.

I just think of the ipad as a larger version of an ipod Touch.

Apps are great for getting you straight to the action and address some of the lack of Flash Player issues. (iplayer, itv player etc.)
  • This is going to sound ridiculous but oddly enough this helped when I got bought one for my birthday.

I watched ipad tutorials on youtube to learn how to use mine.

    Try this tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLzCXB-BD9g

This person has other tutorials as well so worth a watch to get more confident with using your ipad :)

I have had my iPad 1 for nearly 2 years now and there are still things I discover on it that I didn't know it could do and I work in IT! xxx
Life is too short not to love what you do.
  • Thank you all very much for the great advice. I don't feel such a technophobe now knowing others took a while to get used to their iPads too :). My fitness pal was the app I had heard about, thanks for that. I didn't know you could get a keyboard for it either so I shall look at those at the weekend as the keyboard I'm finding hard to adjust to with it being on a screen. I shall also look at this u tube links and the links you all kindly posted for me. I really don't think I will use it to it 's full potential but am loving the kindle app and a few games I've discovered -the games can be addictive and I've never bothered with games before but have found Angry Birds :T. O.nce again thank you to everyone that replied. Your advice and comments were very much appreciated :T

You're welcome. I have the Logitech keyboard which is great for long gossipy emails :o and as I seem to have fat, stubby fingers which were always missing what they were supposed to be tapping on - I also have a stylus :o:o
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
  • Thank you for the link, I will have a read of that. I have heard great things about apps from the girls at work, as in ones for diet and fitness, ones that let you scan items of shopping for calorific value and show you you're daily food intake with fats etc. I was also told of an expenditure one which you can put in everything you spend. I have just looked again and there are so many I have no idea which ones are best. :( confused.com!

    Hi
I have an android phone (so not entirely sure if the app will work on an ipad) but love the EEBA (Easy Envelope Budgeting Aid) app. It's really good - but probably only works if you like having pots (well, envelopes really lol) of money. You can basically set up a variety of envelopes of money for different things (e.g. I have one for my "spending" money, one for "travel", one for "Petrol" (yes, I know it's the same as travel but like to track separately from bus, train, parking costs) and one for "food". Every time you spend something you can quickly add it in, and it's easy to see the amount of money left in each envelope. You can also get it to top up automatically each month, it will tell you if you're spending too much for the amount of money left in relation to how far through the month is (helpfully telling you to stop spending for x days!). Their website iswww.eebacanhelp.com. There is a free version and then a pay version, which has more features.

Another app I love is called OurGroceries - shopping lists basically but you can allow various people access to it; so we use it so that whoever notices something has run out adds it to the list and that gets synched to all the people who have the list on their phone/ipad/tablet. I have also extended it to include a freezer list, so that as I take anything out of the freezer I count it down (you can have multiple of the same thing). Also, same for the store cupboard for tinned/dry goods so I know what I've got in - and means if you use the last thing, you can easily transfer it from the "cupboard" list to the shopping list as you can move stuff between different lists. In theory, you can then update various lists as you put away the shopping. Well, that's the theory - doesn't always work (very out of date at the moment) but gives a nice feeling of control when it is done, however briefly it lasts :rotfl:

I appreciate these apps might work best on a phone (presume you wouldn't really take your ipad to the supermarket).

When I first got a phone I downloaded loads of free apps and tried them out, deleting ones I didn't like or found I didn't use, and that might be the best way to get into it?

There are actually adult learning courses on how to get the most from your ipad so it must be a common issue !
