I know of a couple of con artists who have made literally thousands of pounds since Feb this year and now they have been rumbled they are blocking and ignoring people, there are at least ten people who have filed claims against them. They have also been reported to HMRC, the DWP, trading standards, the police and the online fraud team so they might wonder if it was all worth it.
There is also the sad tale of the young woman with cancer who had a free wedding courtesy of facebook businesses, a nice honeymoon and money sent to her for treatment - now in the hands of the serious fraud dept.
And then there are lots of genuine charities out there who struggle cos people don't want to be conned by tw*ts like these, makes me sick
I do give directly to people who appear to be in distress/trouble/homeless etc. (had some very generous people help me out in a pickle) but this is why I also treat charity listings without the Missionfish ribbon with a pinch of salt.
That is not to say I avoid them like the plague - I buy a lot of books from sellers who may or may not be registered with eBay but, say, call themselves 'St Luke's Hospice' or whatever. Some of the Oxfam IDs are not registered with Missionfish, for instance, either, yet they still come up with the book I've ordered. That's fine - I want the book they're selling, it's of no real consequence to me whether they are a hospice or someone trying to make a go of it as an ordinary business or private seller.
What I don't tend to do is just take a punt on a listing because they say it's for charity but have no identifying features."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I am sick of my facebook page being clogged up with selling pages. i dont mind some of the personal sellers who might be selling one item, but i am sick of the fake goods and all the sellers will deliver locally for £5 (so that no one can grass them to the DHSS)!!Just about to give up!0

You should not be getting any personal selling page adverts unless you have subscribed to them. I have a 2 nd I'd (yes I know that is baaaaad) purely so the adverts for the pages I subscribe to don't end up on my private feedback page.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Or just set their posts so they don't appear on your feed. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0
