I belong to about 7 facebook selling groups, some of them run at about 50% fakes and pirated goods and are blatant about it. 'Newly copied DVDs' 'I can copy you two to a DVD if you want'..or Armani fakes- buy with confidence.
Obviously trading standards turn a blind eye but I find it puts me off selling on FacebookI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. The local selling page linked subscribers in to a scam that had just gone down- a common scam but with a twist.
Seller opened a store selling fakes, mainly popular things like Chanel sunglasses, Mulberry bags and juicy couture items but sold the, all as fakes. He was very careful to answer all questions mentioning these were fakes but the best ones he'd even seen. He even had a couple of plants post to say they had seen the stuff and it was worth twice what he was selling it for
Obviously people started to order stuff, then he said that paypal had closed his account for selling fakes. That had lots of sympathetic responses along the lines of how rubbish PayPal was and how are they stop him running his sideline.
So he asked people to do bank transfers (a Halifax account) and people were queuing up to pay him, most saying how happy they were that paypal were losing out in their commission. Then people starting asking for tracking numbers, and he said he had loads of the orange slips and as soon as he matched them up with the people on face book he would start sending the tracking details.
Then it went quiet and people realised they had been conned?
The twist is that although they were advised to go to the police it is an offence to buy fakes in the UK, so the buyers would effectively be turning themselves in for prosecution. That's why he was so careful to make sure people knew they were buying fakes.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It strikes me as surprising that people would be so happy to stick it to "the man", they would fall for that sort of thing and also incriminate themselves at the same time.
I read a post on the official boards once where the poster said they hoped that a site would come out selling the stuff that eBay "arbitrarily" banned - fakes, tobacco, alcohol, etc.
They would be very lucky to find any site that knowingly allowed those since even the freebie sites fight shy of breaking the law."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Some people are asking whether they could get away with telling the Police that they thought the items were genuine- but it is being pointed out to them that they will need to provide some sort of evidence, probably the Facebook emails which will instantly show the man was blatantly selling fakes.
So many are on the 'disgusting' 'I hope he rots' sort of rants now, even some saying '** scammer, selling fakes and conning us' when they were all happy to go along with the deceit.
Nowt as strange as folk, happy for people to be crooks and cheat the system, not so happy when the same person cheats them in exactly the same way.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I know of a couple of con artists who have made literally thousands of pounds since Feb this year and now they have been rumbled they are blocking and ignoring people, there are at least ten people who have filed claims against them. They have also been reported to HMRC, the DWP, trading standards, the police and the online fraud team so they might wonder if it was all worth it.
There is also the sad tale of the young woman with cancer who had a free wedding courtesy of facebook businesses, a nice honeymoon and money sent to her for treatment - now in the hands of the serious fraud dept.
And then there are lots of genuine charities out there who struggle cos people don't want to be conned by tw*ts like these, makes me sick
