Son's phone has died after three years and was fairly unimpressed with Virgin shop saying he needs to buy a new phone and then go sim only to get anything like current deal (200 mins unlimited texts, £10.21pm)-- he'd turned down an upgrade last year as phone was still fine at that point.
Went to Carphone Warehouse who offered Samsung Galaxy Y ( I know it's not a great phone but it'll do the job for him) 300 mins, 5000 texts and 500mb data for £7.50 pm. Called Virgin for pac no and lo and behold they can suddenly offer same phone, 600 mins, 3000 txts and 1gb for £7.50 pm, free next day delivery. Struck me as a good deal and saved porting no and loss of signal for a couple of days, so accepted it despite irritation that they don't let their shops offer the same sort of deals.
I guess you have to do your homework and be prepared to leave to get a good deal.
Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!
