No water in property.

Options
We are tenants in a 4-bed flat above a shop on a high street. We found out we had no water supply to the property yesterday (Monday) morning. Rung up thames water who failed to show until this morning and after some time they found out there had been a leaky pipe in the shop below us (The Money Shop) in their back office and that they had turned the water supply off, which in turn turned ours off. They have said they are waiting on a part from their plummer to fix it but don't know how long that will take.

Thames water have said it is the shop's problem so cannot help us at all. But we're now stuck with no showering facility, toilet, hot/cold water at all.

Do we have any rights in the way of getting Thames Water to fix it or claiming compensation from the shop below?

Many thanks
Rich

If the fault is on the shared supply below you rather than on TW's side of the meter then it's nothing to do with them at all-it's between you, your landlord and the other tenants. I'd start with the latter, assuming that the shop are also his/her tenants.
Compensation for what-surely your priority is to get the supply restored?

Hi Rich, this is nothing to do with Thames Water. Possibly the landlord assuming l/l owns both the shop and the upstairs flat. If l/l wanted to let seperate parts of the the building to 2 different people (you and The Money Shop) he should have had new pipework fitted to provide a seperate supply to serve the upstairs flat, then this kind of situation would not arise. At present you are both supplied by the same pipework going through the shop. I think it is called a shared supply. Suggest you chase the shop/l/l to get the leak repaired to restore your supply. Probably persue the l/l for comp. for no water.
