Tailgating should be made a criminal offence

Driving at 60mph isn't illegal. Who dictates whether it is needless?
Either way tailgating is wrong and it is the tailgater who should be adjusting their driving.
Who do you think will be at fault if the car in front has to make an emergency stop and the car behind is too close?
I'll give you a clue... it's not the car making the emergency stop. What does that tell you?
It is utterly ridiculous to suggest that everyone should drive 10mph faster to prevent tailgating.
Like I said, you could be doing 85mph and still have a knobber trying to bully his way past. Using your (flawed) logic, the car in front should increase his speed to 95mph so that he won't be tailgated.

I said nothing of the sort. I said that if it's happening often, then it will always be the decision of the tailgater to do so, but the frequency suggests the OPs driving style is giving lots of people the opportunity to do so0 -

Crazy.
Oh dear, you really are having trouble with this aren't you?
I have not suggested that everyone should drive 10 mph faster, all I have said is that it is best if people examine their own driving to see if they are contributing to the problems around them.
But hey, if it makes you feel better then yes, you are a perfect driver, and have no need to do it. Happy now?0 -
The most common reason for people going slowly, in my experience, is people using their mobile phones. They think that by going 50 on a motorway, they won't come a cropper by driving ridiculously slowly.
I think people are only human. If you come up behind somebody in the outside lane going 50, it takes the patience of a saint not to drive a little bit closer than is safe.0 -

I'm not having trouble at all. In fact, it's really easy to see that suggesting other people should compensate for tailgaters is complete lunacy.
Quote where I've said I was a perfect driver?0 -
Lane discipline (or lack of it) in this country certainly contributes to some agressive driving on busy roads
If you thinks its any different in other countries however try driving the autoroutes in Spain, Portugal, Italy etc and then you'll see real tailgating
Not defending tailgating as it is dangerous but so are drivers who show complete disregard for other rules of the road as shown in certain posts above0 -

It doesn't matter whether it happens once or twenty times. It also depends where you drive. You're more likely to get tailgated on the M25 than you are on a B road in Scotland. Should everyone stay off the motorways so as not to get in the way of drivers wanting to do 70mph+ everywhere?
Common sense dictates that if you're stuck behind a slow moving car then you either find a safe place to over take, or back off to a safe distance until they pull back in or you can get around them. Not get all up in the boot thinking that they'll adjust their driving in a minute.
I get the opportunity to walk out of Curry's with a TV under my arm. Doesn't make it right.
Can't believe people are honestly saying everyone else should look at their own driving if they're getting tailgated :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

OK I give in, your entirely right of course you should not adjust your driving to compensate for other vehicles around you.
I also agree that if everyone was considerate to other drivers it would be complete lunacy. :cool:0 -
I said nobody should compensate their driving for tailgaters. Get it right.
You still haven't quoted me claiming to be a perfect driver?0 -
