Proper way of cancelling a contract

My o2 24-month contract is up in September on the 26th.

I know I need to give 30days notice, so if I write to them in mid-August will that give it enough time to be cancelled properly. Does it need to be a proper written letter?

Also do I get to keep my existing number as I just want to get a rolling simplicity 1 month contract but wish to keep the same number.

Sorry I am just not sure how to cancel it correctly.

If you want to stay with O2, ring them on the 27th August and tell them to switch you onto their simplicity 1 month contract and the end of your current minimum term otherwise you will continue on your current tariff on a 30 day rolling contract. You will be able to keep your number and there's no need to write them a letter.

It's likely that you will be able to get the minutes and data you need from another network for less than you're paying O2, so it's always worth having a look around.

You can't cancel a contract by giving 30 days notice and keep your number, you need to to ask for a PAC code, take out the new contract and get the new network to apply the PAC to get your number moved.

However if you want to move to another o2 tarrif simply call them and ask. thewy should be able to do it over the phone and save the hassle of PACS and moving providers.

And you may also be able to negotiate a better deal than those on the website - if you do some research first to see what else is available and then you can use this to bargain with them on the phone.
