Upgrade, Cancel or wait.... T-Mobile iPhone 4
Hi,
'm not too sure if there is a simple answer to this question, but on the other hand I don't want T-Mobile to screw me over.
I have been with T-Mobile for a total of 4 years. (Perfect history)
July 2 Years ago I upgraded from a G1 (HTC) to an iPhone 4 (love this phone) and for the privilage T-Mobile told me "You can't get a discounted line rental or a deal because Apple set the prices and this is what we have to sell them at" so I'm currently paying +£40 a month with no real perks, unlimited texts, 900 mins etc.
Anyhow.... I'm ready for a potential upgrade/cancel... BUT I also want or would like the iPhone 5 that should be arriving in September or there about's.
I contacted T-Mobile via Twitter & I went into the store, I asked them both the same question "What are my options?"
Twitter convo.....
T-Mobile:
"Hi Ben, entirely your choice, but you wouldn't HAVE to upgrade until you want to, everything will run as normal till then"
Me:
"So it would still be £40 odd a month?"
T-Mobile:
"Your line rental would stay the same however any discounts you have will expire when you are out of commitment."
and the guy in the shop told me the same.... But I said to the guy in the shop about when I last came in 2 years ago, there weren't any discount options because the prices were fixed.
(He went on to tell me how I could upgrade now..... cheap line rental.... Buy iPhone 5.... yawn etc)
So.... Do I, Cancel & get my iPhone as a "New" customer (saving me a potential line rental of £80-£120)
Wait it out, see IF I get a discounted upgrade and continue to pay my £40 a month and RISK wasting my time and money.
Also.... I don't need any advice on "Galaxy S3 is better... etc etc)
Hopefully I have explained in full.... I do like to go into detail so nothing gets missed.
Thanks for your time, Ben:beer:

In a word, yes!
Give notice, and switch to PAYG. You then have the pick of all the networks and can go with the best deal - but don;t forget purchasing the handset from Apple unlocked will be giving you the most flexibility.0 -

Thanks Buzby,
You've kind of confirmed what I was thinking? At the end of the day, 2 years ago they didn't do me any favours, so I'm thinking why should I be loyal now.
I'll give them a call tomorrow and let you know how I got on, (wouldn't be bad if they said, pay £10 a month, you get xyz package until the iPhone 5 comes out... Here's a holiday for good measure)
I'm gonna shutup now!
Thanks again!0 -
also... Thanks buscape (I think we posted at the same time)
No I don't need 900 mins, I use about 50
I use data (Facebook, twitter, iMessenger etc)
Texts, I must send no more than 100 normal texts
It's all about the data these days!
(about 20 picture messages & 20 international texts would be handy, but not essential)
Their 10,000 texts & minute mind tricks don't work on me! Haha!
T-Mobile are having a laugh to be fair... I should have gone with my gut and cancelled today "/0 -
If you can manage with 1Gb of data, Three will give you this plus 100 minutes and 3000 texts for £10 on 1 month contract. If you need unlimited internet, they do 300 minutes, 3000 texts and unlimited internet for £15 also on a 1 month contract.
Tesco do 250 minutes, 5000 texts, 1GB data and unlimited BT Openzone for £12.50 on a 3 month contract.
giffgaff do 250 minutes plus unlimited texts and data for a £10 top up.0 -
Wow, that's pretty cool, I never knew these existed!?
But then again, I suppose I have been paying an inflated price for a while!0 -
Ok so I called T-Mobile, Cancel etc, explained above
So I'm now on a rolling monthly contract.....
300 mins
5000 texts
500 mins TMobile to Tmobile
Unlimited browsing (facebook, twitter & iMessenger)
750mb for YouTube & Tethering
&
50 Free picture messages
£13 a month
& if at all possible when the iPhone 5 comes out I will be entitled to my upgrade discounts, but I nobody knows what the prices will be HE was UNABLE to promise anything.
So I keep my number, save a few quid a month & I may still benefit when I upgrade in Sept (or when the iPhone 5 comes out) or I walk away and go to a better value network if needs be.
How does that sound?0 -
Good deal.
Post the deal you got in this thread, might help someone else when they're negotiating with T-Mobile at the end of their minimum term.0 -
Done! & thanks again! :j0
