Aye, iirc the relevant HD spot on the Freeview EPG was held for them (and for a while the bandwidth on the muxes reserved), but as they've never actually given a firm "we'll do it", and the reservation on the bandwidth ended a while back the BBC have taken the opportunity to use it (IIRC it was open for anyone to rent/buy).
Basically 5 kept mucking about from what I can tell, and ended up losing the chance to make use of the space, and have now decided to keep their HD offerings available only to active Sky subs from what I understand.0 -
Same thing here, I don't normally watch CH 5, although I did watch Wentworth, tried to record the film Creep last night, and came to watch some this morning got the 'subscription error' as well!0

Just record from the SD channel. The programme you missed is likely available from the Sky On Demand section (also in SD, of course)Twisted_Cherry wrote: »Same thing here, I don't normally watch CH 5, although I did watch Wentworth, tried to record the film Creep last night, and came to watch some this morning got the 'subscription error' as well!0 -
Am I right in thinking that the powers that be are looking at changing legislation so that the HD channels provided by the terrestrial providers will be re-classed as PSB services, so they may eventually have to go unencrypted?0

If that was the case, I doubt Channel 5 would put their HD channel behind a paywall.Am I right in thinking that the powers that be are looking at changing legislation so that the HD channels provided by the terrestrial providers will be re-classed as PSB services, so they may eventually have to go unencrypted?
Are there still any "terrestrial" providers since digital changeover?0 -
I have 'an active Sky subscription' (but not EE+ or the old HD pack) and I have lost channel 171 too.Basically 5 kept mucking about from what I can tell, and ended up losing the chance to make use of the space, and have now decided to keep their HD offerings available only to active Sky subs from what I understand.
So it's not just 'an active Sky sub' but a higher end one.
Thanks heaven channel 5 is such rubbish anyway.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
