Very Expensive DVD - Can't be right!

Hi All
Does this seem expensive to you?
http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/157450/Now-And-Then/Product.html?searchstring=now+and+then&searchsource=0&searchtype=allproducts&urlrefer=search
I'm looking for a present for my best friends Daughter and she likes to watch films, this was a film that me and my sister enjoyed at her age so thought it would be a nice present.
I looked in HMV and they don't sell it so thought I would try Play.com, but £35.00 for 1 DVD seems ridiculous to me! Or am I just very out of touch with DVD prices?!

Its an old film (1995) so it may simply be that stock is hard to come by and commands a high price on that particular DVD - something else where there is stock from the same period might just be £5. Might be worth a look at Amazon to see if they've got it cheaper but watch out for incompatible imports that won't play on our machines.Adventure before Dementia!0

Thanks, will check Amazon now. I think I'll be looking for a different present if I can't find in any cheaper! I was expecting to pay around £10.00 for it!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

It's £12.95 (+ £1.25 postage) on ebay (item appears to be used and not new).

Have a look on eBay, and see if there is a cheaper preowned DVD, that's if you don't mind giving something used as a gift
I've just had a quick look online and it looks like it's really hard to come by so that's why the price will be so high

Don't like the idea of giving a second hand DVD as a gift! Will look at Ebay and hopefully find a new copy, if not I have other ideas for present for here, she's a girly 12 year old so not hard to buy for!
Thanks for looking though!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Just be careful, as this is the region1 version and wont work on OP's player unless it's region 1/multiregion :money:0 -
If it's no longer very popular then it probably reflects the cost of keeping it in stock when it's not a current title. That link has an option to buy it used for half the price, or Amazon also have copies which are cheaper:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00023JHLS/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all
Or you could get her a LoveFilm subscription with a card recommending this particular film which might be even more cost effective!0 -
It's "Out of Print" in the UK, which means there are no more DVDs being printed of that film, hence new copies are hard to come by and therefore sellers will expect a small fortune.
As DitaVonTee shows above, there's a much cheaper Region 1 option if you have a multi-region DVD player or a DVD player that can be hacked easily. Search your DVD player make and model and the words "multi-region hack" on Google if it isn't multi-region. Some can be hacked with a simple remote codes. Others, particularly Sony players, need to be chipped which can be pricey and invalidates any warranty on it - in fact it would be cheaper just to buy a new DVD player from Philips which is a quick hack... but I digress.
If you use a console as a DVD player, you can't make them multi-region without invalidating the warranty and if Microsoft detect you've done it they ban you from Xbox Live... funny really when you consider they have American uncut releases of films censored in the UK available on Zune market, but once again, I digress.0
