Advice needed quickly (second hand dealer problem)

There's no guarantee the replacement gearbox will be any better than yours.
With 2nd hand parts it's pot luck.
Do you really want to fork out another £150 on an unknown part? I know I wouldn't.
As others have said,the car is still driveable.

I'd be tempted to put it down to experience....next time you buy a car take it for a thorough test drive,never take the word of the seller,especially a car dealer selling a 500 quid motor !
