    Depends on the situation I suppose and whether you want or need privacy or screening all of the time.

    I too have had both and much prefer wooden venetians; much more contemporary looking than the (sorry if I offend anyone) granny-type verticals. Granted, they do require more cleaning but this isn't excessive.
