O/S Monday 23rd July

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 23rd July. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, soplease don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning All!
Awake again at 4.25am:eek:
Fed up with it actually! Had a good weekend though. OH did lots of little jobs for me. Put up my hanging basket brackets, two new grab rails by the washing line, fixed the ceiling where it had fallen down:eek:
Fixed the leaky gutter on the kitchen, and helped my cousin move house! He's a sweetie.:rotfl:

We also had Pirate Day in Hastings yesterday. We set the Guiness record two years ago with over 6,000 pirates in one place at the same time. Last year Penzance beat us, so we got it back this year, over 14000:T We also had The Red Arrows come over. They did a display over the sea that lasted for 15 minutes, it was awesome! We watched from the Prom, and loved it.:T

Fell again on Saturday in the kitchen:o I fell very elegantly though. OH had to rush in and pick me up:mad: Only grazed my elbow this time though.:o

Going to take it easy today. Have a good day all!

Good Morning Hilstep, Taplady & All to follow

Hilstep - as Taplady said - take it easy.

Had a really good weekend, think due mainly to the weather and kids being out most of the time :rotfl:. Food and Drink festival was very good, spent a bit  but have stocked up on Tiptree Jam, got some lovely sausages, spice mix and a rather lovely toffee rum. Didn't see Gino D'Campio as he was on much later but think from the hoards coming in that he was very popular.

Today is going to be hot so am in my office early doing the minimum then off first thing to the City - DD wants to drive  for a couple of bits. Back home to grab some food then off to the beach. This is our only free day this week so must take advantage.

Not sure what will be for dinner, something very easy I should think.

    Have a great day all.x

Good Morning everyone and Happy birthday for yesterday for Snowy Owl.
Well the sun is shining and the sky is beautiful so fingers crossed it will stay this way for a few days.Had quite a trauma yesterday .DD,son-ilaw and the four boys and I all decided to take ourselves off to Westgate beach as it gets sligtly less crowded than the rest of the Kent beaches.Beautiful afternoon and we took a picnic and the boys had a great time with their crabbing lines. The tide started to go out just after three and by 4 there was enough beach for the children to go on and they were having a paddle in the sea nad playing football with their friend who also went to Westgate with his Dad and Mum.suddenly we could hear mikey yelling and son-in-law simon shot off towards the beach .what had happened was that the tide had caught mikey and was pulling him out of his depth,he began to yell and panic (he's not a very strong swimmer as he's onlyeight and a skinny little lad.Luckily he grabbed his nearest brother henry who is quite a stocky boy and jack and henry managed to drag him towards the shore.Their friends Mum ran into the sea to help pull him out by which time simon had got there.the life guard hadn't noticed that Milkey was in trouble and was very apologetic, but another minute and it could have been a tragedy.Mikey sat sobbing on the sand and promptly threw up three times.(i think it was a combination of fright and shock). The lifeguard had called an ambulance and both DD and Mikey were carted off to the hospital in Margate where Mikey was checked over and eventually released around 5.30.p.m.I chased after the ambulance with the remaining boys and we got there although I hadn't a clue where it was.We all got home around 7.00.p.m. with a very quiet mikey who was a bit weepy and not a happy little boy at all.Thank goodnes his brotheres were there to pull him out it all happened so quickly within seconds in fact.Mikey now nevr wants to go near the water again so we will have to get his confidence back .Its a shame, as he has swimming lessons at his school in their pool and was doing very well.
It makes you realise how quickly accidents happen he was barely three yards from the edge of the shore but the retreating tide had caught him and taken him out of his depth and he panicked(as you would) the life guard said if you are in trouble then to wave your arms above your head so he can spot you ,not a lot of point if a little boy get frightened though and doesn't know what to do.henry and Jack were brilliant though especially Henry as Mikey was petrified and Henry just yanked him back towards the beach.Mikey evidently was worried that the football they were playing with was going to be swept away and was trying to get hold of it.Frightened the life out of us all at the time though.
Well its summer holiday time and children will be playing around in water and the sea so keep a firm eye on where they are and what they are doing as we don't want any tragic accidents to happen as nearly happened to us yesterday on a sunny beach in Kent in sight of hundreds of people.
I have the boys for four days this week and four every week until we go away in August..So today I am taking them to the local park to play footie with some sarnies and a drink.
Have a good day everyone and stay safe

    Morning everyone

Happy birthday, taplady, have a lovely day, even though you're at work! :bdaycake:

It's lovely here this morning, 3 days in a row of sunshine, fabulous! :D First proper day of the hols here, going into town on the bus (treat for kids, plus DS has car) to exchange library books and collect some uniform stuff I ordered from M&S last week.

I have to defrost the kitchen freezer today, there's a big build up of ice from when the door wasn't closing properly and everything got that wintery haze of frost on it! :rotfl:

I'd like to plant some more edible crops this week, too, as the bl00dy slugs have decimated my spuds, onions and brassicas. Got some peas soaking and some baby leek seeds ready, and also going to do several more tubs of herbs - they seem to do really well and the slugs don't go for them, presumably as they are strong tasting. Next year I'm planting garlic around everything and might do some raised beds or grow more stuff in tubs/planters.

Have a lovely day, people, hope you get some Vit D - hugs and kisses to those in need!

    A xo

  • Good morning all,
Happy belated birthday to snowyowl:bdaycake:and a very happy birthday to Taplady :bdaycake:.
Jackie, so glad that Mikey is ok. A very frightening ordeal for you all.
    Hilstep, take care.
Very sunny here today. Wm is on and a load is out on the line.
Want to get the back garden finished today. It looks presentable now.
I will get some baking done today. Take the dog out for a nice long walk, i could do with losing a few pounds so that will help.
Tea tonight is sausages, egg, beans and wedges.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

    Morning all
Dropped hubby at work, dropped more lettuce at DD's. I'm just having breakfast, a cuppa & a quick browse before I launch myself into todays housework, I really need to get downstairs done today & tomorrow as hubby might be off for Wed, Thurs & Friday & I'll get nothing done when he's home.
I'm spending an hour day writing & also looking into various options for when I retire.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
