sounds a dodgy story to me,
surely if you have that much equity a decent bank manager would secure the loan for you ????

Well if I was in your shoes I would borrow the 50k from the saving and pay in back over the next few months. Either that or ask the bank for an over draft.

who's names are the 10 houses in - if it's your money and you cannot persuade the people who's name it is in to remortgage on your behalf then i wouldn't be too happy - bloody hell, they could sell the houses off and you wouldn't be able to do a thing!
