I've never known towels to be provided in Welsh hospitals, actually DS had to provide own towels in Manchester.

Do you mind me asking which hospital?

I can't imagine that they don't, maybe its just not obvious if you don't ever ask for them.

No, a bath and a hand towel are always on the list the hospital send out telling you what to bring into hospital.

Then I hope they wash them for you or provide some way for you to do so.

Used damp towels hanging round a ward and being used for days on end is not exactly best practice for infection control!

Take your ipad... so you can post. (I am assuming you can post from an iPad onto websites like this).

And, if you've got it, some lockable bag and a padlock to lock the bag to your bed.

There's all sorts that have the time to lie around in Hospital all day .....

No, that's your visitors' responsibility. I don't know what people do who don't have anyone to visit them regularly.

I wouldn't take a towel, the hospitals have plenty, clean ones delivered every day, and if you bring your own it might end up tossed in with the hospital linen and disappear.

They have clean nighties and pyjamas delivered every day too, not the most attractive but perfectly decent. Most trusts supply foam slippers but they're not the best so slippers are a good idea.

There isn't a lot of room in most of those bedside lockers, so I'd say be as minimal as you can or you'll drown in clutter, one small toiletry bag, clean undies and a few good books. The staff can give you things like pens, earplugs etc. and I assume you'll have visitors most days who can bring and take away stuff, you'reT not going into prison!

The only absolute essential is your own toothbrush, the hospital ones are usually awful.

Thanks person one. Not sure about the daily visitors. Because the ones who might visit are either doing what i normally do here, working, or on holiday. I think it would be best if dh does not visit me. Because that means time off work, and my dad will be doing my animals, so will find it hard to get away, but might be able to.

I don't mind not being visited, so long as i have enough to read.

I think i might be going private (the nhs wait is too long, my go is gettign very jumpy now and i had an mri privately last week because it was deemed i needed one urgently (by my gp and an nhs consultant) and the nhs were not able to provide one.

My bag is mainly because i might not het time to wait for either private or nhs and have to be admitted with no notice, so i want to be ready so all i hjave to do is call my dad and ask him to come over for the animals.

Dunno of the hospital will have wifi, but i will be taking my macputer as a pen and pad, to play the very frustrating angy birds on and because i have some meditation on it, so it will be useful.:)

Hopefully not stay in too long! I am still hopeful i might be seen as an outpatient myself, just being prepared.

Towel has now firmly gone into the bag. :)

Come to think of it, the hospital I was going to stay in said to bring a towel, but that would have just been for an overnight stay. I'm not sure what happens if you're in for a few days/weeks.

Hope it all goes well, anyway, lostinrates.

When I was in hospital for the first time (apart from when I was being born, but I was a bit preoccupied then...;) ) the one thing that I REALLY missed was shampoo - I was rushed in at a fairly life-threatening stage, so I didn't really have time to pick up more than my PJs, a clean pair of knicks, my favourite book and a photo of Jasper! Fortunately, the hospital had a little shop so I was able to procure a small bottle of shampoo and a lovely nurse very kindly helped me to wash my hair.

Maybe it's just me, but I tend to feel really self-conscious if I have dirty hair (plus I sometimes get psoriasis if it's left unwashed for too long) - so when I got whizzed in again (different illness, but threatened same life :o ) my shampoo was the first thing I grabbed! Don't get me wrong - I'm not vain or a diva in any way - but I just found that having nice clean hair helped me to feel a bit better and more comfortable.

VERY best wishes, lostinrates. Hope all goes well for your op and that you are back with us very soon, on the road to recovery and dispensing your wisdom once again! Keep smiling! xx
