  • He will receive SSP for up to 28 weeks (including the 12 weeks to date). His eligibility for other benefits will depend on your household income (do you work?), and whether you have capital over £16,000.
  • From other posts it looks like you have mortgage insurance - can you not claim on this?

well this is my prob, im not sure IF they will pay out as it is with the Halifax and although he has a new coop account which the dd's come out of to pay for the ins he has defaulted on his halifax loan and old bank acc and I think they may accept the claim but use the off setting rules and use the ins to pay those debts and not pay the mortgage?

I dont work and we have no saving
    thanks

thats if they can do that legally? As i would have thought insurance money would be different to off setting for other accounts?

Irrespective of what the bank does with the money (I don't know the answer to that), the DWP will see that the payment protection is for the purpose of paying the mortgage and apply it accordingly - hence you will not qualify for help with mortgage interest.

If your only income is SSP the govt will top this up so your weekly income will be £111.45. Do you claim WTC or CTC?

no we dont, do you know if anyone here would know about the off-setting rule? Thats my main concern as if they wont, then we may as well cancel the policies?

    many thanks

so do you know that if we cancelled the policies then the DWP would pay the mortgage interest?
  • Why would you cancel the policies now? That would be very irresponsible. Given that you know you are going to need assistance, the DWP will look into why you have cancelled, and your claim could be sanctioned accordingly.

You would need to ask about the mortgage protection on one of the finance boards, hopefully someone will know.

I would cancel the policies now if I found out that they would be off set and my dh is working 16-18 hrs a day and will do until its not poss to do it anymore as he is a workaholic im just asking the questions now as i like to be prepared thats all.
