There was never any real point of buyers getting negs, except to make us sellers feel better. Buyers look at feedback for a seller before they bid and so negs can warn them off a poor seller, we sellers rarely get the opportunity to get our buyers until it is too, late.

Politely disagree, I always look at feedback of buyers who are late paying to see if others are having trouble.

One time on a buyer feedback page, I saw a load of positives saying "makes a paypal claim immediately... scammer!" and similar. Fortunately I saw this despite them being "positive" comments, and refunded the buyer stating OOS before sending the item. It would have been a lot easier if the comments were actually negative.

The reason they were removed was for something we all know, to make it easier for ebay to automate their system and save them money. Better profits for the only downside of slightly aggrieved sellers who need to use the service because of the monopoly they hold... surprised to didn't get rid of buyer negs sooner.

You're asking for trouble if you only do that after sale. The buyer can easily give you a neg.

There's absolutely no reason for sellers to leave negative feedback (or any for that matter).

I don't know of any sales business that 'marks' its customers, so no reason Ebay should be any different.

If this guys ID starts with "alex" I should be a bit careful, he has only had 7 feedback (false +'s) but has bought about 56 items on July 21 and 22, mostly computer related items.

PS just to add he also had a very good + in Jan 2012, so just possible the account has recently been Hacked?

    Top notch detective :T

The buyer can give a neg for any reason. But in that specific example, the buyer was a scammer, not helped by none of the sellers being able to leave negs.

There's lots of thing that a sales business don't get marked for by their customers either. How many retailers get individual stars for postage, communication etc?

Every retailer gets marked by their customer, obviously not all officially but they all get marked. There's a substantial difference between a buyer and a seller, buyers need all the rights, sellers should be able to look after themselves.

As Soolin said earlier if the sellers who left false negatives had filed reports to Ebay then the buyer wouldn't be around.

Oh and btw, retailers do mark their customers, the security teams do it all the time, even have profiles of the dodgy ones.

    Negative comments would allow that.

Personally I want sellers to be able to leave negative comments for buyers. There was a time when you could set your seller preferences so that any buyer who had -2 feedback score could not buy from you, and I liked having the ability to do that.

I know what Soolin says about if sellers gave buyers a non performing seller strike every time they messed around then they buyer would get kicked off without causing too much trouble, but the problem is most sellers are too scared to do this, as the buyer can (I believe - happy to be corrected) still leave feedback.

And even if the buyer can't, I won't do an NPB just in case they can, as I don't know for sure.

For me, the system doesn't quite work.

If a seller opens and closes an NPB without the buyer paying then the buyer can't leave feedback.

If buyers are too frightened to do NPBs wouldn't they also have been too frightened to leave a neg?

Also if sellers don't do an nPB they lose their FVFs- so it is a pretty dim seller who lets a buyer get away scot free and loses money on the deal as well.

So even though your not sure how things work and haven`t taken the time to find out, the system doesn`t quite work?
I know of no other place where a seller can find detailed ratings of those people it sells to an see no reason why they shouldin all honesty.
The fact is if sellers are given back the power to neg. Then we are once again in the situation of honest buyers not happy with their purchase for whatever reason too frightened to leave factual fb in case they get negged. The same would apply for those honest buyers put off from putting in claims for inr`s and getting their money back from those sellers who neg them falsely as scammers ect.
