Carphone Warehouse "network price promise"

Hello all

Has anyone here managed to bring the price of "deal" down using Carphone Warehouse's "network price promise"

http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/price-promise

I'm looking to get a new handset, possible Samsung Galaxy SIII. It's free on both mobiles.co.uk and buymobilephones.net (however it's £99 for upgrade). Carphone Warehouse charge £49 for the handset (this is their sale price, normally it's £150 apparently, lol). Just wondering whether I might be able to haggle with them and whether it might even be a different price for the upgrade altogether.

Thanks

Waste of time. Their price guarantee is worthless.

Do you say this based on experience.

Yes - but not recently. If you read the t&c they have so many get-outs it's very unlikely you'd succeed. When I tried getting them to honour a similar promise some time back they wouldn't even match it from another CPW site.

CPW is ALL about marketing and not a lot else. Use them and abuse them in return and you'll be fine.

However, why not try it and see? You have nothing to lose if you think you have any chance of them matching a deal.

Usually, there are better ways of getting a good deal by playing them at their own game. Top end phones with decent bundles usually come with a high price; sometimes it is much more efficient to take out a free cashback deal with a decent bundle (IF you know what you're doing) and a cheaper contract (low bundle) contract with the phone you want. Alternatively, buy the phone and take out a free contract. If you need a very high bundle that won't be so easy, however.

If you tell me how much the contract costs and what the bundle is that you need it might help.

Thanks again for your prompt reply. I'm looking to get a Samsung Galaxy SIII, need at least 300 mins and reasonable data allowance at least 750MB. Not looking to spend more than £26 per month, I'm currently with T-Mobile, would prefer upgrade rather than new T-Mobile contract as less hassle, what with the porting of numbers. What I like about Carphone Warehouse is that I can collect from store as I can't take time off from work for home delivery.

I've been put off my mobiles.co.uk, I recently spent 15 mins on hold @ 10p per min, only to be told by the sales person that they don't do T-Mobile upragdes. I asked why is says call here for t-mobile upgrades. He said "I don't know"

I haven't checked, but the cheapest S111 deal I've seen is more than that with a small bundle. The free deals presently have a slightly smaller allowance than you are looking for too. Try the price guarantee; but don't expect much!
  • Wait a month when the S3 is no longer the new kid on the block and have a look then would be my advice. And keep checking CPWs weekly smartphone deals as they ocassionally come up with a beauty (I got a superb HTC One S with 200 mins/500 texts/truly unlimited data for £16/mth with no upfront charge for the phone on a 24 month deal!).
