October/November holiday suggestions

I'm thinking about booking a holiday for the Autumn but not sure where would be good at that time of year...we like fairly active holidays and to see/experience new things and prefer something we can do self-guided (don't really do sitting on a beech or organised tours). I enjoy a bit of luxury but will also do camping.
Budget will probably be about £2k max but preferably less (including flights/accommodation/spending money) for 2 adults and we can fly from any London airport.
Any suggestions? Where have you been at that time of year that was good?

Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

You could head to parts of America at that time but might struggle with a 2K budget all in.
We did a holiday in late october hopping around the Canary Islands, these are not beach destinations if you don't want them to be.
The Azores would be another good option although I haven't been there to fully testify.0 -
Madeira - especially if you like walking.0

Egypt will be warm. You can get to the Red Sea and snorkel and get trips to Cairo and Luxor. Alternatively base yourselves in Luxor and travel along the Nile and get a side trip to the Red Sea0

Malta is brilliant and 2k will get you an awful lot of holiday for your money. The island is full of beaches and museums, lots of diving and watersport spots as well as more adventurous activities. The food and wine is fantastic and it will be sunny without being to hot. If you book with Air Malta you should be able to get pretty cheap flights and the service is brilliant.0

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll probably have a look into Madeira...neither of us have been before and we do like walking so it could be a good option

I agree with others who recommended Malta as I love it there - I've been three times already though so would like to try somewhere new. I've also been to the Canaries a few times already too, and it is nice although I don't like it there as much as Malta.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
For October, I'd definitely suggest looking at San Sebastian
The whole area is stunning0 -

I should have mentioned Madeira as well. Stunning place and we love it. Lots of fantastic walking routes and one of the best places to experience lots of flat mountain walks with their Levada system.0 -
With £1kpp
Cruise with ports that have plenty of options.
Explore each port DIY
then have the convenience of decent food and entertainment at night
eg NCL Spirit from Venice to Barcelona 12nights with good stops on the way <£600 for the cruise, leaving £400 for flight, days out, booze and tips.
Maderia is a nice place been there a few times on cruises.0 -
If you like walking and want to see somewhere further away I'd highly recommend Grenada in the Caribbean. We found it to be a beautiful and unspoilt area with some quiet beaches to walk along in the northern part of the island. There's also the Grand Etang National Park which was awesome.
We stayed in a self catering place here's a link: http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/caribbean/CB265.htm
The couple who run the place are from the UK and gave us lots of ideas where to go and what to see.0
