Bailiff behaviour @ neighbours - rant

My missus called me yesterday morning terrified. She heard banging and shouting coming from outside and had a look out the window to see what was going on.

She heard someone shout "It's the bailiffs. Open the door or we'll break in and take your stuff" and thought it was someone at our door. She went downstairs and it turns out that they were knocking at next door, and not our house (which is a relief as we have no overdue debts!).

Anyway, this guy came over to the missus and explained that he was after such a body and asked if she knew him. She was on the phone to me at this point and was asking if i knew the person. I said no, explaining to her that it's nothing to do with us and that she shouldn't be getting involved and heard the bailiffs say OK thanks and left.

Shortly after the neighbours returned home and my missus went to tell them what happened. A few minutes later the bailiffs were back and they started off again banging and making threats.

I'm furious that they would act in this way to someone. I've tried speaking to my neighbours to get the details of the bailiffs to make a complaint but they're reluctant to speak about it.

Unfortunately what you have experienced is the sharp end of "finance". They can ask you questions, but as you noted you have no obligation to engage with them.

I suppose calling the police out is an option if they are causiing a public disturbance.

Baliffs are pretty much outside of the law. I'm friends with a gypsie family round here and I've seen it for myself, nasty bunch.

My band plays a folk song about Baliffs, and before we start we ask if there are present in the audience. Well this one time, would you believe, some moron puts his hand up. He was quite big, but the crowd didn't hesitate to bundle him out of the building before we started :p

So which is it? None of your business or so much your business that you're going to make a complaint?

Hint: the correct answer is the first. It's none of your business. Leave your poor neighbours alone, they are probably embarrassed enough already.

Honestly, let your neighbour deal with the bailiff. Neighbour involvement can get messy very quickly.

My complaint is against the behaviour of the bailiff - not about the concerns of my neighbours.

If it's a court bailiff chasing unpaid fines they have the right to break in so do tend to make a bit more noise. But...once they have the person they are after they do make fair and reasonable deals for repayment.

But the bailiff is nothing to do with you, you should stay out of it. The bailiffs may make it more difficult for your neighbours than it already is, if you start making complaints about them.

If you had a complaint about the bailiffs behaviour towards your wife then thats fine, complain away. Why would you want to be involved ?

It would be nothing to do with me had they not been banging and shouting loud enough to hear in my own home. As it is, they were and that aspect is my concern and that is why I want to find out who they are and give them a piece of my mind.
