New clutch, Merc

Would any of you kind peeps have an idea of the cost for a clutch replacement in a Mercedes C220CDi automatic? (51 plate)

I have not been able to find a local garage that will give me a price and I am avoiding going to the dealership simply because I know how expensive they are for any kind of work never mind a big job like this :eek:

Automatics don't have clutches! They use torque converters instead.

If you're having issues, I'd recommend using a fedauto member for auto tranmissions

Well what ever it is, it is slipping and over-revving before it changes gear.

First step is to check the transmission fluid level. If its low it can lead to those symptoms.

If the level is OK then it might be worth changing the fluid. But I'd be contacting your closest member of fedauto at that point and get them to take a look.

PS. check the fluid level sooner rather than later. running on low fluid can kill the friction material on the gears very quickly

Older auto's were not brilliant, Modern boxes with more electronics change gear sooner and more accurately.

Have you had the car long? Is this something its recently started doing?

I would not know where to check for the fluid level.

Thanks for that list, it would seem that there is no members local to me in Fife, I may have to travel further that I had hoped

it is an automatic, that is why I said that in my first post.

I have had the car from new and it probably started doing this about a couple of months ago, I did not really notice it until a couple of weeks ago though as I was not doing that many miles.

Oh dear you have had the car over 10 years and dont know where to check the oil level.

You need an automatic gearbox specialist. They can drain and flush the box and change the filters.

If it needs more than that your looking at £1000+ for box repairs.

Mercedes supposedly fit a sealed for life autobox, all this does is reduce the life! Fluid changes every 40,000 miles are a must. This is probably the main reason for your problems, the fluid will be like treacle.
