Breaking my rules for a used car?

Normally i buy a car thats less than 5 years old, Fairly high mileage for approx £2000.

Mondeo's fit the bill with plenty of choice.

Age creeping up on me and its starting to feel a bit low when getting in and out.

Had a look at a C-Max. Seats were like wooden boards. S-Max ooohhh nice... I like that. Until i spotted the sign on the screen HOW MUCH??? Its an overgrown mondeo for double the money.

Had a look at the parkers website for something different, Honda, Vauxhall etc etc.

Not much seems fit my criteria and budget. Mondeo seems closest :rotfl:

So i need something that weighs 1400kg+, Diesel with 130bhp+, Towing limit of 1300kg+.
With a reasonably high seating position.

Cheapest S-Max seems to be around £4.5k But suitable ones seem to be closer to 5 - 6k.

Do i break my own rules? Or is there something out there thats within my own rules?

I know a £6k car potentially wont be any more reliable than my £2k car. That makes me think dont bother.

Suggestions???

Thanks

This is where only you know if you need the money somewhere else.
If you don't, there's no point in leaving it to the kids, and having to struggle in and out of a mondeo.

I vote for a complete change, cheap old 4x4 for sub-£1,000. Sit in one and see if you like it. ;)

Zafira would be cheaper with plenty of older examples around. Would try another CMax - if its just seat hardness it may have been the spec level you tried out. SMAX is a halo product for Ford and they get good money.

Not a lot of headroom, Space for a cushion of a couple of inches in size i guess.

Dont think that will be good for my back though.

Not sure what spec the C-Max was?

Not a Zafira, fan i thought they were all fairly low powered, Seems thats the early cars were but later 2005 onwards 1.9CDTi 147bhp. That maybe worth a look.

Cheap old 4x4, Been there done that, Land Rovers, Range Rovers, Lada's even. Off road play days and trials.

Stick with the standard height cars,

'use it or lose it' is the medical phrase, you either keep fit, slim and healthy or you go rapidly down hill as you get older.

I'm not one to talk, I have to lose some weight, but I believe in the principle, I know for me, it's now or never, if I want a healthy old age I have to do something now.....sounds like you do too.

There's a lot of sense in that.

My wife has a 61 Meriva as her Motability car and we chose it for ease of access.

Our son, who lives with us, has a 1998 Mondeo which I gave to him when I retired in 2006.

I drive both cars and, from my point of view, the Meriva is an absolute shed and I am far more comfortable driving a 14 year old Mondeo then a 3 month old Meriva.

Having said that, I have to admit that when I retired in 2006 I was starting to struggle getting into the Mondeo.

Since then I have lost 4 stones but still have another 2 stones to get down to a fit weight but I am getting there.

You need to think for yourself.

Do you need a new car or do you need to get a grip on yourself?

I have a disc problem in my back. The actual seats and driving position is perfect for me.
I can drive for hours. Getting out hurts. But the actual driving is OK.

    I tried a golf, PAIN within 10 - 15 minutes.

I did try a vectra years ago and it felt like the seats had no give. Do they stick planks of wood under that material?

So comfort is the main criteria, I dont want to end up the the poor house though. Recently due to family issues my mileage almost trebled for a few months.

IM used to it doing 30 odd MPG though.
