Yeah it's a week. Just want it to go as smoothly as possible and be prepared for anything they may bring out as they won't want me to go.

There is nothing they can do, apart from try verbal pressure and/or say they won't pay.

Notice starts the day after you give it, so to make the last day a friday, you need to give notice the previous Friday.

Decide which day you want to be the last?

Whats the contract say about holiday during notice?
if nothing you could book holidays and do even fewer days.

Looks like some managers might have to pull their fingers out if they need to stay open.

(oh, 2 weeks is not a long holiday)

120hrs 52 weeks with 40hr workers requres 3.4 people. minimum to cover holidays, more if you want sick cover.

To cover 120hrs with 3 people requires minimum 45hr weeks.

did people opt out of Working time, if not then you can use that to stop too many hours.

We opted out of working hours yes, and it's not 120 hours, that was just a rough guess, but it's not far less.

I may have used all my holiday, but one thing that annoyed me is when my colleague booked 5 days off he got a week as they didn't book his usual days off with holiday. I use my final 6 days, thinking I'd get a week off, no I literally got the 6 days (5 days really as I'm covering so my colleague can go to a funeral).

Either way - should I ring work and say that I've had an interview and there is a chance I'll be handing in my notice? Or not say a thing until I'm actually handing in the letter?

Are we speaking the same language here? Are you going to ask the question continually until someone says 'yes, go on - tell them'.

Ok - if that's what you want then...

'yes, go on tell them. Ignore everything else everyone has written, ignore their own requirement for one week's notice [note, not advance notice, just one week's notice] and ignore common sense and the general agreed behaviour to give a company the notice that they require'.

    Is that better?

[Note - no, don't tell them. Do nothing until you have an offer. Then give one week's notice, which is the agreed notice period that they have requested of you.]
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

I don't think you are reading/listening to what people are telling you.

This has been answered more than once allready

Sounds like a plan (not a good one, but a plan none the less).

Seriously ? .............. not being funny but how old are you ?

    Was your interview yesterday ?

Have you actually been offered the job ? (I think that you said earlier that others had received job offers on the same day as their interview).

    Woah okay!

I feel a bit bad doing it - but oh well.

    Major Update.
ENDING THE EMPLOYMENT: See the Company Handbook & Company policies manual

Your employment is subject to termination notice as set out below:
After completing your probationary period, you will be entitled to receive:

    - Up to 2 years completed service: 1 week
    - Thereafter one additional week for every year of continuous service up to a maximum of 12 weeks for 12 years service.

You are required to give the company 4 weeks notice.

However if at any time you commit a serious breach of your employment obligations including but not limited to any act of gross misconduct, your employment may be terminated by the company without notice or payment in lieu.

Last two people that quit from my position only gave a weeks notice. I bet the managers do not know the contracts well enough. Guess it'll be about trying my luck.

Although, they both mentioned to the manager they were look for alternative employment.

No doubt you will be giving them a month's notice then?

The others got away with a week - so I'll give that a go and see if they accept it.

Not so long ago you wanted to give them 2!

I'll be you don't feel so bad about giving them the heads up now!

I think they would try and negotiate for it anyway. I don't particularly want to leave a good friend in such a bad position - I'm not fussed about the company they'd do me out of a good turn if they could.

The more I think about it, the more I'm not that bothered any more. It's just a case of I'd rather give a weeks notice, than four. That'd be one awkward month.
