Virgin card and another MBNA card - not possible

in Credit cards
Applied for a Virgin card to take advantage of the 9 month interest free period. However got declined because I already have another MBNA card (Conran). Did offer to reduce the credit on my Conran card. Was told it is now MBNA policy that you can only hold one MBNA card - the person on the phone refused to budge.

Is this only for other MBNA cards or does it include the actual MBNA branded card?
I recently was accepted for a Virgin card despite having an MBNA card too. I was able to shift my credit limit from the MBNA to Virgin too.0 -
Just out of interest do you know if they did a credit search on you? If this is a new rule which applies to everyone then I would hope they checked their own records first and discovered you already had an MBNA card and stopped there.0

I would assume they did a search although I can't say for certain. I did have to wait a few days for acceptance, not sure if Virgin might approve online?
Maybe this is a recent rule change? I was approved 2 weeks ago.0 -
Didn't ask if they had done a credit search. They just said you have another MBNA card and therefore you can't have another one. Worth while trying to call again to speak to another operator?"An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0

Hello
Virgin don't approve online. I've just received approval from them in the post after applying online and from memory I think the website said that the information goes to MBNA in the US for approval.
By the way, I've received a limit of £12,000 from them, despite having several cards with a combined limit of £30,000+ (most of that being empty, by the way!). Are MBNA less strict on their tests, I wonder?Aiming to be debt-free June 2011 at the latest!!

Same thing happed to me... see my reply to Martin's 'cast iron' post' The Virgin guy said my credit rating was excellent but because I have an abbey card (not used for 7 years or so) I can't have another MNBA (Virgin) card.
Guess what, I've decided I'd rather have none!..HLK
