But how was your hearing afterwards?

Can't say I noticed any difference but that might be due to the fact I was feeling very dizzy.
    I hate migraines.

My mam needed her ears syringing last year. She had a holiday ruined because she couldn't hear. I remember she had to wait a couple of weeks after she got back to get seen to, but that was due to a new machine coming in. This machine vibrated the ear (I think!) to loosen the wax so is less painful than the traditional method.

Have to say though, that it was bliss while my mum was deaf on holiday. Best holiday ever! First time we've been on holiday where she hasn't caused a nasty argument, simply because she couldn't hear anything to argue about. :j
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Hehehe she can't be as bad as my nan was. My nan threw a cup of tea at mom because there was too much milk in it!

Putting a thread title as something more descriptive than a sad face will also probably get you more relevant replies. :)

Is "two weeks with olive oil" the official recommendation? Our GP surgery told me that it was three weeks, they refused to give an appointment before then. (I thought they 'irrigated' the ear now rather than 'syringing'?)

I thought the advice was to never put anything in your ear smaller than your elbow !

I used to get my ears syringed out every 18 months or so until one of the nurses (bless her!) asked me how I clean them. When I answered that I wash them every day when washing my hair she advised me to stop immediately as the soap was causing the irritation and the ear wax was the bodies natural defence. That was about 15 years ago.

Put nothing in my ear since then, possibly a quick wipe out with a towel and a bit of water - not had to have my ears done again since. :T

Thanks for the replies. I've been using olive oil, used to work for me as a kid but I think the wax is too hardened to make any difference.

The reason I am annoyed is because when I'm at work (in retail) I often get customers asking me questions and it looks awful to have to ask them to repeat themselves! I'm also expected to answer the phone- doesn't go down well with a quiet phone :D

I didn't know there were issues with ear syringing but I've had it done before and I will ask when I go to the appointment.
I will continue using olive oil until I get the appointment I think. It seems like the most likely solution.

You could also get some sodium bicarbonate ear drops which are only a coupke of quid from the pharmacy and use as well as the warmed olive oil at night.
