washing machine clothes coming out with marks on it

Hi I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I've had my washing machine for about 4 years and the past few months my washing has been coming out of the machine with marks on it. On black items it looks like white marks and on lighter clothes grey/ black marks.

I have to rewash the clothes and on the odd occasion it doesn't happen.

I've tried a washing machine cleaner and that doesn't seem to have helped.

Does anyone know what this could be Thanks.

    Hi Debbie,

It could be mould on the seal inside your machine? I know I have that, and dosent matter how hard I scrub, it dosent come off completely ...

Check around the seal, especially between the grooves. A wipe around with a damp cloth should get the most of it off, if it is indeed that.

I'm pretty sure there are some tips for this on the Old-Style Moneysaving board ... something about baking soda and / or white vinegar if I remember rightly!

Ho wash cycle on 90C with a cupful of white vinegar (no pre-wash mode).
You are probably doing too many washes on low temp (30 or 40C) and the undissolved powder is building up.

Drawer or drum, it doesn't matter.
White vinegar, not malt, red wine, balsamic, etc...

Almost certainly your door seal rubbing against the clothes, depending upon make of washer you can get hard plastic incerts that fit between the door seal and the inner drum of the washer to stop this happening. Some of the newer door seals are also a fair bit harder than they used to be so a new door seal might be the answer if you cant get the incert.

A local independant washer engineer should be able to help, ring a few and ask them for advice.

As PP s have said I would look at the door seals and the gap, round the diameter, in it that provides the "spring" to seal it.

We live in a soft water area and get a scum that settles in there and needs to be wiped out . Occasionally it will also end up on the bottom edge of the "glass" bit of the door.

Agree with replies about the door seals. I has the same problem and had to give the door seals a really good scrub, there was mould or something building up in them.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I done 2 x 90 wash with vinegar and scrubbed the drum. It seems to have worked.

I thought I was going to have to buy a new washing machine so thanks again
