    Lord, that is ridiculous!

All of my cats are indoor only, which is why to me the insurance is expensive. I can get Lifetime Insurance for £6 each with Pets at Home, whereas I am on the basic limited package with PetPlan

The major difference between indoor and outdoor cats is RTAs but most cats don't survive long enough to need thousands in vet care. All the infectious stuff that can be vaccinated against/ parasite treatment used are not covered on pet insurance. Indoor cats are just as at risk of other chronic health conditions as outdoor - diabetes, chronic renal failure, cancer and so on. These can cost thousands per year and the cat can live well after the 'pot' runs out on basic packages.

And they could fall off a high shelf, land awkwardly and end up with 2k worth of treatment like my friend's indoor cat... luckily she had insurance!

I have a question too re insurance if anyone can help please

I own a pug who is insured, she is two years old and rescued. We have been offered another rescue, 6 year old female who is ex show dog and has had litters for her owner.

We know she is sick, although the breeder hasnt taken her to the vets, she has had several seizures, and the breeder wants to get her a home now shes done breeding. We would dearly love to take her but are worried re fees for meds as presumably we cannot insure her now???

I know she needs to be examined thoroughly, but would like some idea how much a month meds would likely to be? Sorry to add this here, but cant find how to start a new thread
  • You can insure the new dog but any existing conditions will be excluded. So for example, seizures wouldn't be covered, but a broken leg (unrelated to seizures) should be.

Your best bet is to ask that the dog sees a vet and gets diagnosed, then you can speak to the vet regarding cost. It's impossible to know what the cost would be since there can be several causes of seizures and there would be different costs involved with different conditions.
  • Thankyou, I'm a little concerned that the owner still hasnt had her checked (she had the seizure last Sunday) saying she hasnt had the time. I understand that there can be many reasons for seizures and so I dont want to take her until I know what I will be getting into. I suppose I will just have to wait until the owner decides what she wants to do. I do think shes hoping we will just take her and sort it out ourselves
Thank you for taking time to reply
  • I hope you've reported the owner to the RSPCA. Who knows what else she does to the animals if she's as open as letting them suffer like this!
  • To be honest I havent, I know shes quite a known breeder, thats what makes it so bad..........
I kind of want to go and get the dog myself, but I know thats not really the answer, I just feel so bad for the poor little thing........
I am new to all this, we have had two shih tzu dogs, one died aged 17 and the other is now 11, so we have never rescued before. Our pug was made known to us by a friend, so we just immediately fell in love and took her, and made a contribution towards the future rescuing. This would be our second experience, and we are in unknown territory:cry:
  • That's all the more reason to do it. I can't tell you what to do, but I can tell you that if I were in your situation I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing that I'd done nothing to stop the abuse of animals by that woman.
