Cancelling Singlepoint Account

I've just phone up Singlepoint trying to cancel my account, and firstly, was bombarded with offers, and then told I need to write in to cancel my account?!?!? What's wrong with doing it over the phone? I've done it before with Orange.

I'm out of contract now, and passed all the security checks they did upon phoning up, but was told my signature is needed, yet it wasn't when I signed up. If that's the case anyone could write in and cancel my account as they don't know what my signature looks like.

Has anyone else been able to cancel over the phone? Think I may phone back and try to blag it. Pain in the backside as it just prelongs the whole cancellation process. Probably just a ploy to extract more money from me.

Nope, tried again, they won't budge. It has to be in writing which to a certain extent I can understand. Was very direct (ie didn't want to waste time being told offers) so the phone representative wasn't very helpful because there was nothing in it for him.

I asked if it was possible to do this via email as then I'd have a copy and a datestamp of the cancellation letter myself. Again I was told no. To be honest I don't see why they can't do it over the phone, considering my contract was verbally given over the phone.

It's just annoying, as I've read instances where it's taken upto and over 2 months for the cancellation to go through, as you have no idea where in the process the letter is. They said they'll send a letter of confirmation upon recieving my cancellation letter. Will have to wait and see.

Can't wait to sign up back on to Orange.

I had this problem last year and thought the same myself. Why do I have to write in?

In the end I just typed up a quick cancellation letter and posted it mumbling all the way to the postbox. Doing my best Victor Meldrew impersonation.

The very next day I got a phone call from singlepoint having received the letter begging me to stay and offering me lots of temptation.

I in the end gave up and stayed as I have been with them for about 7 years. I got a great deal.

The good point is if they phone to tempt you back after receiving the letter then they cannot turn round and say they didn't receive it in time as they have acknowleged it.
Its better to be late in this life than early in the next one.

    Slow down speed kills.
