Paid on payment due date - okay?

Okay, I'll accept full responsibility for this. I forgot about paying this off, and didn't get any reminders, but just remembered now.

My payment due date is the 20th July, and I just made the payment like 5 minutes ago using a debit card

01:50 on 20th July

I think it went through straight away as it says my new balance is £0 and still says "it needs to reach us by the 20th"

Does this mean it should be okay?

The website is very.co.uk btw

Already had some hassle (making me drive around to pick up my parcel which was never even delivered) but that's nothing compared to this ruining my credit rating (even though it's my fault) :(

I need a 0% credit card soon as well too :(

If the balance shows as 0, it should be ok. Most companies don't report things as late unless it is late by several days and most companies will remove a late payment marker as a one off as a gesture of good will.

I always interpreted the "by" as "by close of business", but the wording of one of my cards seemed wooley, so I've tended to go for the day before now.

Some companies state that a debit card payment can take approx 2 days to reach your account, but you might be lucky as you made the payment before the cut off period even if it hasn't received the payment account yet.

    I don't have that card.

My recent experience is that internet banking payments made during office hours always go through same day (but I don't always see it on my account for a day or so, but when it appears it's backdated). Debit card payments *don't* always go through same day.

    From VERY ;

You can check we have received your last payment by logging into My Account. Click on the Transaction History link on the left hand side of the screen, to view your most recent transactions. The payments we have received will be listed here or on your latest statement. Click here to sign into your account.

Please allow 7 working days for payments made by post, and 4 working days for payments made by all other methods. For payments made using the Faster Payments you should expect to see you payment showing on your account that working day*. If your payment still cannot be seen in My Account, ring us on 08448 222 321 or fill in a missing payment form.

*On most occasions payments made via your bank before 6.30pm will show in the time specified. Any payments made after 6.30pm will be processed on your account the following working day.

Looks like you'll be fine this time. Your statement and your online access are your reminders, but maybe also set yourself reminders on your mobile/computer. Alternatively set up a Direct Debit/Standing Order.

I had a similar issue I paid my account 5 days late in error.

Even though they charged me i spoke to the credit reference team this morning they said my credit file would not be affected.

"Most" of them will undo what they reported the previous month? Surely not!?

reclusive46 might be getting confused - whilst most creditors will remove a late payment charge as a one off goodwill gesture for a first offense this won't automatically change your credit file.

If you paid late enough to miss the cut off point and have a late marker added to your file, it'll stay there if it's correct and that's that, except for extreme circumstances the likes of which I've not seen before :o
