I have been using excel for over 15 years and have never come across the term sprinkles before!Thinking critically since 1996....0

hi, i am trying to learn excel 2010 myself, only because in the future my body may not be able to keep up with the work i am doing now, its knackering.. anyway, i agree with the mike smart smart method. i bought 4 books on excel over a few months, starting with excel 2010 for dummies, now using the excel 2010 expert skills book. finding it ok but not really mastering it, but getting along quite well..i just get confused a bit, then it sinks in..i think the best book to start with is the mike smart smart method, essential skills.... really is a great book that lets you learn at your own pace..plus you get excercises at the end of each chapter........as for sprinkles, i have never seen them, the nearest with similar letters that i have used, is sparklines....?Corduroy pillows are making headlines! Back home in London now after 27years wait! Duvet know it's Christmas, not original, it's a cover.0

General information about online learning/open education in a global economy (lots of free courses some with recognised free certification and others with certification that would need to be purchased).
ALISON is one of the best indices to free online courses and education: they have a collection of Excel courses.

PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE OP!!! Put me out of my misery and tell me what 'Sprinkles' is?
I'm all my years of using pivot tables, lookups, IF equations etc etc I have never heard the term before and can't find anything on Google for it.
What on earth is it???You had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -
good god, I have no idea where I got that from, you are or course right its Sparklines lol
I even had to check as I have never heard of either haha
Sparklines it is http://alison.com/topic/learn/3037/37105/module-2-what-s-new-in-excel-2010/introduction-to-sparklines
If you have only ever used 2003 then when a company has 2010 you stand no chance getting the job if you have never used it thats why I need to do a course and ALISON is not really recongnised by anyone and does not allow you to practise. I just need to now find the £ to get 20100 -
Thanks for clearing that up!!Originally Posted by MissSarah197

I don't really understand this. 2010 doesn't do lookups or pivot tables any differently, really, to 2003. If anything, it's even easier to do them in 2010 than 2003. If you can do them in 2003, then you can definitely do them in 2010. Any employer who doesn't understand this is being very short sighted, or doesn't really know what they are talking about.
I can understand how frustrating it is for you.You had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -

Just like accounts pacakages if you haven't used the up to date version of things like Sage or Agresso then you are overlooked. Not my fault if companies I have worked for have never upgraded.
Lots of jobs want advanced Excel and I have never had the need for it at previous jobs.0 -

Just an observation, but in my experience people who ask for this generally mean "I have no idea how to use Excel and think there should be someone around the place who does, so I'll ask for it"! Believe it or not it is in my job description, someone obviously thought it was an essential skill (for social work????). I do have pretty reasonable skills with Excel. I have never used it in this job. I don't expect I ever will!
So it might be just as good an idea to "cover" it - "I have sound skills and experience in using Excel, and have used it to..." I bet they won't know what you are talking about and will just tick the box. It's pretty much no different than asking for Word 2010 - the differences are minute, they are mostly about interface, and practically nobody knows the difference anyway!0 -
One suggestion is if you learn how to do pivot tables and leave it at that then you can confidently tell employers that you are at pivot table level. There are lots of Youtube tutorial clips on it.0
