Re-usable nappies?

Hi all,
My hubby & I are expecting our first child in December - exciting but scary!
First subject to tackle - we would like to try re-usable nappies, a lot of places seem to do starter packs which is fantastic but they are quite pricey. I know that the savings in the long-run will out-weigh this initial cost, but to be quite honest I was shocked at the range available and really don't know where to start!
Did any of you use re-usables and if so what would be your recommendations and what would be on your 'to avoid' list??
Thanks in advance

If you go to goreal.org.uk there is a lot of info. Also check with your local council. Many do a cash back scheme or a free trial pack xYou never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

Thanks I'll check them out first thing in the morning - it's already an hour past my bedtime and I'm not thinking straight!
Our council doesn't offer any sort of incentive unfortunately

Tots bots can be bought from Amazon and I know one person who loves them, and one whom they haven't worked for.
Bum genius is another one I had recommended
I think the real savings also come with subsequent kids

Don't buy loads to start with - the shape of your baby will dictate which ones will work best for you.
Also seriously consider buying second hand, it saves you a fortune.0 -
I used disposable nappies with my first and reusable with my second, I highly recommend them.
I used Tots bots without any problems, loved using colourful/patterned wraps.Kate short for Bob.

Its trial and error at first, different nappies suit different shaped babies.
I wouldn't get too many of one kind, check out any schemes/vouchers your council offers. Don't discount terries, they can be folded in lots of different ways to suit different shapes and in terms of cost are as cheap as they come.We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0 -
Try the nappy lady website. That has a questionnaire which should help you choose the brand most likely to suit your baby and lifestyle. You don't have to go on to buy from her, though I did and her follow up advice and service is excellent. Her recommendation for my then unborn child also suited us perfectly and fitted him well.0

I used Ebay cheapies, which were about £2.50 a nappy all in. They are a good way to start to see how you get on.0

I was interested in resuable nappies and I bought one to try with DS. However despite him being the correct weight, I found that the nappy was too big around the legs and leaked.
My local council give you a £30 voucher towards reusable nappies, so I'm going to try some with this pregnancy, as I'm due in a couple of weeks. So I agree with the other posters, don't buy too many at one go.0
