the memory speeds make little or no difference - infact the latency will be higher with the core II duo's memory and the bandwidth may be less.

nope the amd one is onboard graphics as well.

Would go for the second one - better processor by far.

Sorry, Yes My mistake, the Nvidia is integrated as well for AMD's

The core 2 duo is better.

Your right becasue of different chips memery speed has other variables that need to be considered thus 400mhz vs 533 mhz might not mean what it reads in this case.

The intel is not upgradable, becasue its integrated into the motherboard.

Hi, is that standard with all Intel chipsets then? You cannot disable on-board graphics & add your own card? I didn't know that - I'm looking at upgrading shortly & it wouldn't have occurred to me that it was 'normal'.

Not necessarily - it depends on the motherboard. Many motherboards come with both (onboard graphics and a dedicated PCI-E slot), so one can disable onboard graphics & add a dedicated card. [STRIKE]Unfortunately this one doesn't - I've had a look at the Asus P5VDC-TVM manual[/STRIKE].

So, when upgrading/purchasing make sure to get one with both, or more importantly one that has a dedicated PCI-E slot. G

Ah, thanks for that - I had always assumed that all modern integrated graphics could be disabled if necessary - useful to know.

You would have to disable it if you went in for PCI (this is not the same as PCI-E) graphics card, but that could be a step in the wrong direction. A dedicated PCI-E card is the best solution.

I think the latest motherboards/graphics cards disable onboard graphics automatically when a dedicated graphics card is installed (saves one doing it manually). G

So i can add a dedicated graphics card to the Intel (Maxdata pc) if in the future i feel the urge to suddenly take up gaming??

    and...

Anyone recommend an el cheapo graphics card that will run Aero smoothly and free up the memory that the onboard graphics takes up??

Initially I said no (see post #14), but apparently you can:
    Ports
    • PCI Slots: 2 x PCI, 1 x PCI-Express
One of the reviewers confirms this: "It has a few extra standard power connections though and the PCI-E for graphics cards."

If a 256Mb Geforce FX5200 AGP can support it, a 256Mb PCI-E Geforce 6200 should do fine I think - but let someone else confirm this.

Before purchasing, I would see how the system runs as it is (with the onboard graphics), & only consider a dedicated graphics card/more RAM if not satisfied. G

i'd go for the intel system the core 2 duo is the better processor, and although the onboard graphics card will use up some ram you can get a cheap graphics card that uses pci express which will have its own dedicated memory and will help performance :) and 1gb of RAM is more than enough :)
