How much free hard drive space do you have on the system drive (C:)?

Clean boot it and see if it still takes a long time to boot.

Follow the rest of the guide fully, all 12 steps, then post a fresh log, and if xp, the memory numbers requested in step 1.

Thats not the full log, there's a ton of bloat running, and an odd proxy setting.

in the msconfig there is a startup item that looks as if it is in chinese writting with the manufacturer as UNKNOWN

Not unbelievable actually i followed the guide the original time and it worked a treat! System working fine until a week ago when it started to take 20 - 30 mins to boot-up, different from the last issue i had.

From the log, It doesn't look as though you followed any of closed advice at all. The proxy server is still evident, AVG8 is still installed, as is spybot, ad-aware...

I can't see why you'd have winpcap installed so it's probably been bundled with malware as it's been known to use it. I would guess the ???? o4 entry is from a previous malware infection.

Post the header from the Hijackthis log - the bit above running processes.

Will I did follow the advice the first time it certainly did work a treat. But in the last week the laptop is now taking 15 - 30 mins to boot up. This is drastic change, so something seems to have happened. Will post hijack this again. Hdd has 20g free so doesn't see to be that. Haven't done a clean boot yet.
