I needed a job as my other had finished what am i meant todo sit around on hand outs or help a company which works privately for the governmentand earns a massive amount of money so i am not worrying about their lose i intend to give them 14 weeks of hard work and know i can do the job - this job will always be required but by giving 1 year contacts the employer protects themselves against employment laws then having permanent staff as I stated earlier business is business and I am doing what I feel is morally right rather than sit and claim benefits etc

Everyone is completely entitled to their opinion but unless faced with these circumstances I don’t really feel you can really understand esp calling me nasty that seems very harsh :(

sorry, i really don't agree with you. they are expecting you to come along and work for a year as part of a team, i don't care whether you are giving them 14 weeks of hard work, they want and need 52!

where i work someone was employed on a permenant contract, when she comes to start she looked preggers as indeed she was and went on mat leave 4 months later, that left us in a vey difficult position.

i have worked long and hard for equal rights for women, as did my lovely mum who was very active in the equal pay struggle during the 1970s but even I don't agree with what the op has done,

It's not uncommon for people on 1 year contract to start looking for a new job almost as soon as they start: to make sure they're not left in the lurch at the end of a contract. Likewise, employers tend to offer relatively short notice periods to new employees (I don't know about this job?) so they can lay people off if business needs change; in that context, it doesn't seem reasonable to expect too much loyalty from new staff.

I hope the new employer are OK when you tell them. If they're smart, they will at least be civil about this - even if they're angry, it's much better for them to have a good working relationship with you for 14 weeks than to have 14 weeks of antagonism! They may not be smart, but I hope so...

Hope the rest of the pregnancy goes well!

I think that people like you deserve everything that they get.

Hopefully, one day, when you grow up, you will realise that integrity is a good thing.

There will be little that your new employer will be able to do, should you get the job, and they subsequently find out that you are pregnant. However, I dont think that they will be very thrilled, given that the role is a 12 month one, to cover someone else who is on maternity leave.

Could you explain why you think that 14 weeks of hard work somehow justifies you applying for a 52 week contract that you will not be able to complete.

I hope that your career comes to a stumbling end once subsequent employers find out about this stunt.

I realise that your actions are deemed to be lawful, however, let's be fair, in no way can this type of situation be fair to employers, particularly small companies.

As for your comment in which you say you 'feel you are doing the moral thing', dont make me laugh. I actually suspect that you may be an internet troll, as I cannot imagine that anyone with any amount of sense/intelligence would feel that your proposed actions are morally correct.

DM - People like me? - I am shocked at your reply,
you hope my career comes to an end really what planet are you on? - this job is not covering someone else it's a rolling year contract they renew it every year but only offer a year to protect themself ,

this is not a small company, i was the best person for the job, yes i am pregnant but i wish to work and this was the only job i got to interview for after applying for over 150, as you be maybe aware it very difficult to get any job at the moment so i had to go for what i could get,

you said - one day, when you grow up, you will realise that integrity is a good thing. - i am 33 and about to be a mother i am doing what is best for my unborn child by earning money to support him and being able to get MA so i can spend time at home looking after him - not from employer but from my NI earnings over the years ,

Your comments are very personal and quite frankly i find them offensive - i don't wish to comment any further on this matter

That's probably for the best as we obviously dont agree.

What you are doing is perfectly legal. I just struggle to see how you feel that you actions are moral, and is 'the most moral option' available.

Maybe my sense of ethics are very different from yours.

That is the problem these days; many people don't have values or morals, unless they are solely furthering their own interests. They will bring in things such as working to give a better life, and all that spiel. Because it is helping themselves, it is classed as being moral, but what it does to others and society is totally irrelevant, no matter how disgusting their behaviour is.

Im curious as to what the OP is expected to do. Morals go out of the window when you have to keep a roof over your head and food in your tummy.
OP DH maybe on minimum wage not bringing in enough money to pay the bills - sorry it's a dog eat dog world. And i would have done exactly the same, i wouldn't have felt great about it but if it's the only way she is going to get paid work then good!

I wouldn't take the comments to heart. The same people would probably flame you if you came on here and said that you were pregnant but didn't want to bother getting a job.

It's just their opinion. The law is on your side so you haven't actually done anything wrong!

It's very easy to be so hurtful when you are sat behind a computer. It's nothing short of bullying and good for you for standing up for yourself and your actions.

Good luck with the job and all the best for the rest of your pregnancy.

The OP does have a partner and at no time has she suggested that her salary is vital to keep a roof over their heads. This is down to her personal choice. It is not driven by a need to feed her family. She is not a single parent with a dozen mouths to feed.
I personally think she is living in a dream world if she thinks that 14 weeks of work is any replacement for 52 and where I work, when they offer a one year contract that is what they mean. The job lasts one year, sometimes they get extended but it depends on the need and where the funding is coming from.
There are three types of people in this world. Those who can count and those who can't.

I don’t need to justify myself any further – you have your opinion and I have mine, If I didn’t need to work I really would not have looked for aj ob as this pregnancy is so precious to me but again a sign of the times we live in ,
