You don't have to tell them that you are pregnant either at the interview or if they offer you the job.

That is true, but don't be surprised if when you (OP) do tell them that they find a reason to dismiss you/ withdraw the offer. It doesn't seem fair for you to apply for a one year contract in the knowledge that you cannot fulfil it.

tbh i understand it doesn't seem fair to apply for a 1 year contract when i need to leave after about 4.5 months but i really need the money and need to work , this pregnancy was a miracle as was told i would never concieve natually i hadn't before, i only found out at 12 weeks pregnant ,

I'm not suggesting that you do not apply, just to be aware of how the employer may/ is likely to see it. It would be easier if you were applying for a permanent job, as at least they know you will be back after maternity.

    Congrats on your pregnancy!

I was made redundant end of May at 22 weeks pregnant and have not managed to get a job since. The further into the pregnancy you get the more obvious it gets to employers and whilst they are not allowed to discriminate against you of course they will! Even the job centre have repeatedly said to me that my chances of finding work are very limited.

Good Luck with Baby and job hunt x x

  • Thank you Pip's Mum - Sorry to hear that you have been unable to find work , i know what you mean at 22 weeks you would be showing and now even more so , I already have a sizable bump but can be hidden which makes me sad to say as i am so very proud of being pregnant,

Job interview is Tuesday - i may not get it so worrying about nothing, not fair to be worrying about money when such a wonderful thing is happening - thanks again and best of luck to you hoping you can get some form of maternity xx

I was in a similar situation a while back. Job centre told me not to mention it during interview at all, but to mention it if and when a job offer was made. So that's what I went by!

    good luck.

it may be meh for them - but i got a job where i will shortly remember that i am due to go into 2nd year for a degree in Spetember.

It was that or sell myself for £2.50 a pop to pay my rent.

    Stashbuster - 2014 98/100 - 2015 175/200 - 2016 501 / 500 2017 - 200 / 500 2018 3 / 500

I did similar but left to work at summer camp as it was a '6 month contract' but stayed 7 weeks until I left to work abroad. Sometimes needs must and employers are sometimes similar anyway in promising you the earth and it not materalising

Sadly, in the real world, if you tell them you won't get the job!

However, the law is clear. You don't have to tell them and they can't ask. If they do discriminate against you in any way as a result of your pregnancy they are in clear breach of the law and deserve the consequences.
