I got the Job !!
I have just read the thread, I want to make a few points , I have always worked
I did not want to claim benifits when my other job finished i need this job to help pay the bills and support myself as much as possible,
i have waited years for this baby and to be honest i still can not believe i am pregnant ,
morally i am sad i was unable to say about the pregnancy but in this day in age i applyed for over 150 jobs before i knew i was pregnant only got this interview so not much option to be picky on how long, it is for 1 year with a view to extend,
some people start a job don't like it and leave after few months etc ,
I have decided to tell them in my first week as i am now showing and i don't want to deny being pregnant when this is such a magical gift,
i won't be claiming from employer any maternity and will give them plenty of notice, also i would like to return after some time off with the baby,
i do feel that as a woman it is hard but i am doing what is best for me and my unborn baby , that's making sure i have the money to support my baby , buy the things i need - i would love to sit at home watch day time tv and claim benefit but morally i couldn't do that when i feel i am capible of working etc,
thank you for the support and also thank you for the others whom have been very honest in sharing their views , it is a dilemma but ive decided i am doing the right thing for my family.0 -

So you haven't told your employer now you have been offered the job?
This is why some employers resist taking on women of a certain age.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -

Mrs Reynolds, Congratulations on the pregnancy and the job. It's a refreshing change to reading 'I'm pregnant, what benefits can I get?'!!! Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0 -

I did read that, my point was I think it's morally wrong to turn up and start work then turn around and go I'm pregnant so can't actually work the term I've been given. Rather than turn around when offered and let them know straight away.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -

What would you do in her situation then? Keep telling every potential employer that you're pregnant and being turned down for every job applied for until it's too late to work? Not bother working at all?
At least the OP is bothering to try and give her unborn child the best start in life and not sat on her backside claiming benefits. Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0 -
Whilst I realise that the law is on yourside I could not do what you're doing as I think it is morally wrong. Years ago I left a job then found out I was pregnant. (Also after spending some years trying to concieve). I didn't think it was fair on an employer to take me on for a few months so my partner and I had to just tighten our belts.
If you were one of the other candidates for this role, and were able to commit to the full year but had missed out to someone who could not fulfill the contract, how would you feel? I think I would feel very angry. There are three types of people in this world. Those who can count and those who can't.0 -

I would tell the employer when I got offered the job. The OP may be trying her best. Her employer however is going to loose money on this, someone else just as qualified may have missed out on a years job, and her employer is probably going to think twice before hiring a youngish woman again.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
There seems to be an assumption on this thread that the OP should work rather than claim benefits but is that really the case? If she is married and her husband works then she cannot claim anything anyway.
Also what happens if she takes the job and then suffers from pre eclampsia or needs to be on bedrest for the final few months? (Fairly common)
Whilst an established employer might be happy to take this I can't see a new employer being happy. There are three types of people in this world. Those who can count and those who can't.0 -
And this ladies and gentlemen is why OH won't employ women.
Sexist ? Possibly
Illegal ? Difficult to prove as he's never actually had to advertise for employees
But when you have women who are prepared to do what the OP has done, I think its perfectly understandable.2014 Target;
