The OP is right - the food was labelled as washed and ready to eat, which it evidently wasn't.
OTOH, you could have invited Bear Grylls around - he would have loved it!0 -
At least the moth was clean.0

If the moth had been washed why would it have any more germs on it than the spinach?
A washed moth in a bag of spinach is hardly a horror story.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Haha. Same old PV+W standards in this thread. OP came here to vent and this is a legitimate vent, what is with the jumping down their throat, including the moron who made the accusation of OP being a "moneygrabber"... sigh?.
You can jump to whatever conclusion you like, but this is a pretty horrible incident to be fair, imagine Op or their other half had actually bitten into this....
Op bought the pre-packed and sealed goods as "washed and ready to eat", I don't know how else you can interpret that other than you can put it straight onto your plate.
Judging by their response to Op that clearly isn't the case, which simply is not good enough IMO. I
If a supermarket advertises to me that something is washed and ready to eat that is exactly what I expect to get, not find dead creatures inside.
I wouldn't be happy with their response either.A smile costs nothing, but gives a lot.It enriches those who receive it without making poorer those who give it.A smile takes only a moment, but the memory of it can last forever.0 -
I think the response and compensation are, mostly, adequate.
The one bit of the reply that would have hacked me off would be the "you should always wash fruit and veg" - that being so, why do you sell "washed and ready to eat" labelled items? On the up

Swallow a spider to catch the fly.one of the famous 50 -
It isn't 'just' a moth. It is a dead moth, and it is decomposing over a few days trapped in an airtight bag with a moist organic substrate. It is the equivalent of a rotting piece of potentially contaminated meat kept in a wet bag that is possibly going to be eaten raw. I say potentially because chances are that it wouldn't cause any problem at all, but it might.
The moth will likely be 'decomposing' at the same rate as the spinach as both are organic matter.
How many of us have found insects inside fruit without even considering taking the product back to the retailer. As with all items that are grown outside, there is always the chance that some bug will manage to get between the folds of leaves/stalks etc.
I think Tesco's response was reasonable and a reminder to check all fruit and veg before eating - pre washed or otherwise.0 -

In that case it isn't "ready to eat", even by their own standards.....A smile costs nothing, but gives a lot.It enriches those who receive it without making poorer those who give it.A smile takes only a moment, but the memory of it can last forever.0 -

It may be a legitimate vent, I personally think the OP's post is far too dramatic:Tesco Horror StoryI would like some opinions on a drama we have had with tesco recently.
Drama? :cool:0
