Barclay Card Credit Limit

Hi all, just like to say that 2 weeks ago I received a platinum barclaycard with a credit limit of £3500. After a few balance transfers and transactions barclaycard have REDUCED my credit limit to just £1700!!! I havent even had a chance to make the first payment. Has anyone else had this happen to them?? When I rang customer services they were very unhelpful and just said that they had reduced my limit and that was that!

They need your credit limits to give to the owners of the fraudulent Barclaycards that are being opened........

They just upped mine by £1000, rang them & asked if they would up it by another £1500 so I could take up their life BT & they did.
  • Recently in Oct 2006 my card was upgraded to a Platinum Visa Barclaycard. I phone up several days to increase my limit from £2800 to £3800, which was accepted immediately :T .

I handn't asked for limit increase since Oct 2006, althought i did ring up 1.45 am in the morning!! :p

Does anyone have a Barclaycard that they pay off in full each month and had a credit limit increase?
  • I had mine increased 2k without even asking but then when I tried to do a BT they said they couldnt do this as I already had a BT on my account.Need to add, had this account for about 10 years with never a late or missed payment. Can't see the point of upping my limit if they wont let me use it for what I want to.The BT would of been within 80% of my credit limit.
  • They increased mine last month from 12k to 14k. I have a smallish BT on there at 2.9%.

Hi scoobyra. I applied for a Barlcaycard in March and it was declined but accepted on manual appeal with a limit of £3500, it is an initial card with the higher APR. I have found out today the limit has been reduced to £260!!! I have called customer serives twice and more or less got the same response, "computer says no". I have written back to the lady who arranged for the manual review to say since there have been no change in my circumstances since the beginning of April when the account was opened, reducing my limit by £3240 does not make much sense. The appeal was accepted after I sent in a bank statement proving my disability benefit.

I am hoping they will put it back up to £3500 and stop the computer carrying out the monthly reassessment of my limit, at least without some kind of human involvement. I am also hoping this has happened because my status is down as unemployed and the automated process has kicked in and brought down my limit, in the same way it could not handle my original application being as I am on high rate DLA. I was advised by one member of their staff that it seems it was set too high in the first place, but I had already queried it and I was told it was correct. James
