Have you tried booting it from the recovery disc-you did make one didn't you?
If the drive is disconnected (unlikely unless it's suffered impact damage) then you can check that youself in 2 minutes-just open the drive access hatch and see if it's properly seated.
If you work in customer service then you must know that DSG have the worst CS in the UK, so I'm puzzled as to why you would shop there?

Yes and yes - this didn't work hence why I believe it's corrupted.
No and I won't - IF pcworld proves futile I have insurance and tampering myself renders it invalid.

    I don't work in retail.

Opening the access hatch does not invalidate anything, as it's entirely undetectable. Usually involves undoing 3 or 4 screws, you can then view the connector.
Yes, it could be the OS is corrupted, or the drive has failed. Can you boot to the Factory Restore partition?

  • Oh? I thought it did although you make a good point :} I'll see how I get on today with them.. Not fancying my chances.

However your next point is why I think it's completely fried - I can't get access to restore anything or access the recovery partition plus the disc won't work :| It just starts, gets to the acer welcome screen and loops from there!

sounds like at least the mbr is corrupted - can you boot from a hiren's bootcd or linux bootcd and see your data on the hdd ????

First I would try taking out a stick of memory and then swapping for the other stick if it still doesn't boot, from the description there are quite a few things that could be wrong, But as you have already said it does not boot from your recovery dvd/disk (I read that as disk not the recovery partition on the hard disk)

As checking the memory is quick and easy it has to be one of the first things to check.
