Pc world/laptop nightmare.

Hi there, I hope this is an okay forum to post this to.
Basically last June I was bought a dell laptop in the sale and in May this year the touchpad/mouse buttons stopped responding. As it was under warranty I took it back to pcworld who failed to fix it in 28 days time (and were frankly useless, I had to chase them constantly) so they offered a new laptop at sale price (difference of £200) which I guess was fair enough and I walked away with an Acer on the 8th of June.
And today I find myself with another broken laptop - this time a complete write-off I assume: the hard drive is either disconnected or corrupt (wouldn't boot from disc either) and I'm torn between being furious/upset. I've only used it little - 2 weeks I was out of the country!
I don't particularly want it prepared. If something breaks so soon one assumes it was faulty in the first place. But I don't know where I stand and how to successfully make my point
Pcworld were awful this first time and I'm easily intimidated.
Any advice/shove in the right direction greatly appreciated as I'm planning on going tomorrow morning with a friend.

1. don't mention taking it out of the country - if for no other reason than not to give them the excuse of "it must've been damaged in transit, therefore tough".
2. decide before you go if you want it repaired or replaced, and be prepared to stick to your guns.
3. practice a hard stare before you go......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

1. Oops! I meant I was - my laptop stayed safely in my home!
2. Definitely replaced.
3. Pahaha - I will work on this today. Luckily my friend is somewhat terrifying! :}
Thanks!owl-eyed and lion-hearted.0 -
It may need to go away for a repair since its out of its 28 days. Your best bet is to go in and speak to the manager and plea your case, don't go in shouting and screaming - having worked in retail for almost all my life, trust me, you'll get nowhere.0

If your original laptop had a 1 yr warranty from PCW you may be on a bit of a sticky wicket with someone like them.
The warranty period on an item is for that item and its replacement (if it is replaced). If it was for 1 Yr you are now outside that period - unfortunately you do not start a new warranty period with a replacement item.
This is one of the perils of dealing with PCW - their customer service is terrible. If the store won't help - take it to the top ! (And read up on The Sale of Goods Act !!)0 -
Ultimately the shop manager has powers that could allow you to get what you want. Like above, be calm and state your case. I used to work for a laptop repair company and if it was a strong enough case and they were nice about it we could give them what they wanted.0

This... seems ridiculousI just assumed new product, new warranty - oh dear. Please to be wishing me luck! I think I'm fighting a lost cause.
I work in customer service myself and I'd never, ever go in shouting etc (I don't have it in me anyway!!) I'm just terrible for giving in and crying.. Pathetic I know but I'm a crier :}
Symptoms are black screen with 'cannot find media' such and such 'please boot from disc' - its definitely hard drive related.
Thank you everyone!owl-eyed and lion-hearted.0 -

this should NOT apply - the original unit was effectively replaced with a credit note, which was then used with a cash top-up to purchase new machine...with it's own 12-month warranty. The new machine wasnt given as a replacement for the first. If it had been, there's a chance pcw could have argued this. If your receipt shows as a new purchase, no warranty problems......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
