Paypal chargeback - processing error

I haven't had an email about this, but did get a generic paypal "guide" sent to me as they'd noticed I'd recently had a chargeback. I logged into my resolution centre (so not a spoof) and sure enough there is something there.

17th July - chargeback caused by "processing error"
17th July - working on resolution
18th July - counter-claim received by card issuer
18th July - case under review

Reason for dispute - Special

This chargeback is the result of a processing error. We are resolving this situation with the credit card company. No further action is required by you at this time. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Any ideas what this means?

too many comps..not enough time!

Hi, interestingly enough I had the the same email last night, and have a couple of transactions with the same message on the same date in my resolution centre.

The message says there has been some kind of processing error and they're working with card company to resolve, guess they've had some kind of glitch at a particular time on the 17th.
  • Same problem here. Had an email last night.. Have contacted the buyer but no response yet. Anyone sorted it yet?

We have a pay pal pro system and in January we had two charge backs. I spoke to the customer who said it had been a mistake and they contacted their bank.

we gave Paypal themselves emails and letters from customer etc.

The charge back did not go in our favour so I questioned them. The said that i could appeal and it could take up to 75 days. Oh and they where charging £14.00 per transaction.

I kept chasing them as these where for two large transactions.

We only go the money back at the beginning of this month. Still £14.00 per transaction down. This cost a lot of time and hasel So much so that we have just switched payment gateways. We will keep paypal pro for people who want to pay vis paypal but everything else is now being changed over to a merchant account from BOS
Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A
  • I am not impressed how Paypal has not given me any info as to why there was a processing error so leaves me worried. I posted the item approx two days ago and now I have the same issue as original poster :-(

There are three posters in here with the same message for transactions on the same date. Points to it being some kind of system error they are sorting.

I've not been asked for any evidence of posting etc, which would have happened if the seller had raised a chargeback.
  • OK thanks, hopefully all will be resolved as I believe my other half actually forgot to collect a proof of postage to make matters worse.

Yes, I've not been asked for proof of posting (which I have in the past), so the fact there's a few of us suggests some kind of system error. Will update if I hear anything.

  • Very strange that there is a few of us who got these chargeback emails last night. My buyer has been very apologetic and has contacted paypal and they told her her bank had requested the refund. She then rang her bank her they didn't know what a chargeback was and told her they will contact her credit card company. I think this is all paypals fault.
  • Update just rang paypal and apparantly Visa sent loads of these email chargebacks through paypal last night in error and they are trying to rectify it and I have been told it will be taken off my account so if anyone has these for a large amount I would ring paypal and ask them to remove the chargeback.
