No it isn't. Talking to a human on the end of a phone is a completely different scenario to an automated online booking system.

It only works as an analogy if the online booking system gives you an option to check your existing bookings.

Yeah I think you're very wrong here

Could you explain how he's wrong?

I take your point in general but I've been in the position I've ordered something and not been able to determine if the order was completed. (Fortunately without every falling victim to a double ordering/booking debacle.) Unless there is some facility on the web site to check a previous booking you are a bit stuck if you want to order something urgently.

We really need more information about what, if any, email confirmations were received.

Any outfit that does not send an email confirmation for an order, particularly something as relatively expensive as a hotel room, should, anyway, be avoided like the plague as they are an 'accident' waiting to happen.

As a matter of interest have you ever bought anything online either a product or service via a reputable business where you haven't received an email confirmation? I can't think of anything.

Certainly not for a very long time.

I think I may have done way back in the late nineties - early '000s which would be when I had the problem.

Certainly since internet ordering has become commonplace I have always received them.

Which makes it all the stranger that the OP did not find out about the double booking until he arrived. (Unless he booked very close to travelling.)

  • I'm always wary when it comes down to booking online. If i think it hasn't gone through correctly I stop and then ring up.

You can check existing bookings with all of the ACCOR chain of hotels.

I suspect that this is a browser (IE) issue - one which I have had a lot of issues when making on line purchases.

I now use Chrome to purchase goods online and the problems were solved.

Perfect analogy in terms of if you are unsure if the booking has gone through then call/check online to see if it has been processed
