Best Payg Sim Card Tariff

Hi,

I am after another PAYG sim card because Vodaphone that I am with charge me not just for sending texts but reciving texts which is just eating away my minutes.

I only use my mobile about twice a day and vey rarely text but my brother is on O2 Genie and he gets loads of free texts and free internet access on his phone?

Virgin appear to have a low cost tariff but just wondered what the forum members thoughts are on PAYG and the best deals for sim cards.

I just want to use my existing phone and buy a sim pack with minutes on and if I there are extras out there then better still.

I suppose using the same network works out cheaper which in our case would be suited best to Virgin as my wife's family are on Virgin.

Hope someone can help

thanks

If you have Virgin Television then you can get a virgin simcard which gives you 300 mins to call anyone and 300 texts free every month, if not then either a virgin pay as you go or a tesco sim card work out quite cheap for minimum use. With the O2 sim card you get 300 texts and wap mins but you do have to top up £10 every month.

recieiving texts is free on all networks ???
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
  • Hi Desmonds, as per above, vodafone definately do not charge for recieving texts, can you explain in more detail what you mean? Both Orange and o2 offer inclusive texts per month when you top up £10 + and T Mobile are running a promotion giving you Unlimited evening and weekend texts when topping up £10 a month, and also do a 3p text appeal tariff, where all texts are 3p.

I would give Vodafone a call as you shouldnt be charged anything,if its vodafones fault ask them to refund the money you have lost for recieving them. Have you been abroad recently using that phone or has your wife ?

If you go to Vodapone in the menu of your phone and select prices and then select text services a sms message is sent stating that

    requests cost 12p.
receiving costs 12p text alert & games,
    24p sports alert,
    25p picture alert,
    35p find and seek,

I topped up my card at the weekend with £15 and received a text from my wife shortly afterwards and was left with £14.88p remaining.

She kept texting me and every text she sent was costing me 12p and as well she was being charged for sending them!!

I'm on the smartplus price plan!!!

'text services' is different to SMS

    Text services include alerts/news/info etc

I have vodafone PAYG and DO NOT get charged for receiving standard SMS and never have. I dont know why you do?
    Speak to them

I will check this one out and give Vodaphone a ring and see why I am being charged for receiving texts.

    Cheers

  • You probably be best off leaving vodafone as they aren't exactly the most reputable company - only good value if you use their stop the clock feature for really long calls after 7.30pm.

I'd go with either Virgin PAYG or possibly T-mobile - with them you can choose either 3p texts or 12p calls (including to other networks).

Also no point getting your sim from Virgin as plenty of people round here have spare ones
  • I have been with virgin for a few years now & not had any problems, i would recommend them.
