Hi all,

I'm currently in a predicament as to which provider to go with, with both giving me offers since I'm with Sky for TV and Broadband (Sky Unlimited) and BT for my Phone line.

About 2 days ago I phoned Sky to join their Fibre product, and due to this I had to switch my line rental and phone over to them (no problem for me). I'll be paying £20 for Fibre + £5 for Anytime calls and 12.25 line rental each month. I also had to pay a £50 activation which I couldn't get waived since my line rental wasn't with them, but the nice lady did offer me 3 months off my line rental (£36.75)

I've phoned BT today however, to check whether I would have to pay for any termination fees, and was told I was out of contract. The BT representative however offered me 80MB Broadband, compared to Sky's 40MB, and also a free install, only prompting me to pay £6 for the router delivery. My monthly charge for BT Infinity will be £36.90 including Anytime calls.

Sky = 40MB, 12 Month contract + Peace of mind. (£37.50)
BT = 80MB, 18 Month contract, but have heard many bad reviews. (£36.90)

Speed isn't that big a factor if I get the 40MB quoted by Sky, since I have around 5 laptops around the house plus an Xbox and PS3 which are always playing online with the kids.

Any feedback is VERY much appreciated ! :)

    Firstly it's worth checking whether you would actually get much more than 40Mbps with BT by checking here:

    http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome

    The equipment between your house and the exchange is the same whichever you choose. The technical difference may be in the core network, or a difference in policy on usage / Fair Usage.

    Most poor reviews of BT seem to be related to their poor customer / technical support when things go wrong.

    After using that site, I can receive 75MB in my area, which was the same quote I received from the BT representative.

    Another thing to consider is whether BT are offering you the unlimited package or not. You sound like a heavy user, so if the BT one is capped then you could start incurring extra charges whereas sky are properly unlimited.

    By BT. when I had sky fibre installed it was a BT installer that arrived, he told me that sky fibre is the same product as infinity just rebranded.

    Plusnet Fibre should undercut BT?

    Im sure buzby will be along soon to correct you about fibre and that its not really a fibre service that you would be getting </Pedantic>

    besides just the Dload side (75mb bt vs 40mb sky); check what upload they can offer as this is more relevent with couple of laptops & games consoles.. bt's can be upto 20, whilst sky were originally only offering 2mb, not sure if this has increases recently.. but I would look at that side more!!..

    Hi all,

    Sky = 40MB, 12 Month contract + Peace of mind. (£37.50)
    BT = 80MB, 18 Month contract, but have heard many bad reviews. (£36.90)

    Have a look at the price after the freebie period! Looks good now.

    What happens when you dont get the supposed 75meg down and only get 42 meg, the answer will be you are getting good line speed tough. Customer service is non existent taking weeks to sort a simple problem that other decent providers do in a few hours.

    Go with Sky wish i could.
