Turned down by capitalone 5% cashback card

Where have you applied to and been turned down by? CapitalOne Aspire world card (gave alternative capitalOne Platinum .5% no bonus)

Who do you bank with and have you approached them? First direct + Lloyds TSB

Are you eligible to be on the electoral roll and if so are you on it? Not sure what this would have to do with it but i don't vote (cant be bothered).

Just cut and pasted this from another thread on here to help get a faster response. So far i have only made one mistake on my rent standing order setting it up a month later but other than that everything has been paid for and on time. I am making approx 26k gross a year and i can't see why i have been refused.

Says i should contact those that i have financial links to (?). Put my details through experian and will be getting a letter from them in 5 days but id really want this card and need to know what will help me appeal this decision.

Thanks.

It could be a major factor in your decline. It's an important part of id in credit checking and a very liekly reason for a decline.

The law says you must return the information when requested even if you do not want to vote.

It may take a while for the information to show up as not all councils do updates that frequently so you may have to wait for months.

Personally I opt out of the "edited" register to try to minimise junk mail. That means the police and relevant people can get my details but any tom, !!!!!! or harry cannot buy it.

Not remotely helpful (but then you did bring it up!) but if you can't be bothered to vote, why should I be bothered to help you...

I just got my experian passcode in the mail and checked out my credit rating. There were three negatives that went against me one was that i opened up several bank accounts and the age of my accounts.

What is annoying is that they didn't check my lloyds account which i have has since it took over TSB! they just checked my First Direct account

Another one was as quoted "You have no successfully settled non-mail order accounts."

Was the highlighted just a spelling mistake suggesting i haven't settled a non-mail order and if so how do i find out where and who i owe!?

Not a spelling mistake, but I think you've misunderstood; it means there are no settled accounts which aren't mail order (such as a loan, credit card or current account) - this basically suggests that all accounts of that sort of type which you have had in the last six years are still open, is this the case?

When you close a credit card account for example (not simply pay off the balance) it will appear as settled on your credit report for a further six years before dropping off.

    There's your problem.

But also, isn't the Aspire World card the one where you need a perfect credit history, own your home, and earn £75000 a year?

We're more likely to accept you if you:
    • Have had credit cards in the past
    • Are aged 21 or over
    • Own your own home
    • Have an income of more than £20,000 p.a.
Own your own home may be the area where you do not meet there criteria.

I would say it may be something else as well mainly because I have this card and I don't own my own home and I never said I did. It does say that your "more likely" to be accepted with these criteria but not that you must meet them.

If the account is >20 years old, then you might have opened it before banks started reporting to credit agencies. Thus it will not get checked ever.

If you are not on the electoral roll you will almost certainly get declined for any card that is not issued by a high street bank.

You dont NEED to own your own home given I dont and was accepted for the Capital One Aspire Elite and after a bit of a fight getting it downgraded to a Capital One Aspire World card with its maximum opening credit limit (the fight was to get the application downgraded not for the credit limit, they apologised for not being able to give the same limit as they'd offered on the Elite)

On the voting thing, it is already a criminal offense not to return the annual electrol roll declaration or to give false information on it (so what are you doing?) but in my opinion it should be against the law not to vote too

How did banks and credit companies decide to give people credit before the CRAS?
