Jsa and rules

To anyone that may know the JSA rules,
I have become unemployed recently, And today had to attend a Diagnostic interview 18/07/12.
Well on my way there a little early i decided to have a quick pint being a nice day.
When being interviewed i was asked if i had had a drink today? I expressed the above, And was told that the interview was terminated because she could smell alcohol! As you can well imagine the jsa is not a private place for everyone to here her explanation!
As you could well understand having lost my job and then to be treated and humiliated in this matter i feel is not acceptable.
If anyone could give me any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Lee Keohane

What kind of advice are you after?
Would you have a beer on the way to a job interview?
Would you have beer on the way to work?
I don't think it's acceptable to smell like a pub in the job centre or anywhere else you are going for an offical meeting.0 -
Having one beer really! does that quantify me as being a second class citizen or to be judged! i'am 44 years old and have worked all my life and paid tax during that time. I find that when we need help there should be friendly advice to all, no one should be treated in this manner it is totaly unacceptable in my view.

I have no job and no ££ for a beer
Why did you smell of beer when you went to the job centre?
What if the adviser smelt of beer?0 -
MissSarah i can really sympathize with your situation and feel sorry for you. Having worked all my life i do have some savings as you may guess will run out if i don't find work. but at this early stage not really knowing what the future holds. i took a moment for myself and had one pint of beer!
Is that really that unacceptable.0 -
I don't need your sympathy as I too have worked all my life since the ages of 14.leekeohane wrote: »MissSarah i can really sympathize with your situation and feel sorry for you. Unacceptable? Yeah I think the JC confirmed that by terminating your meeting.0 -
Thanks for your reply.
Good luck in the future of finding a job!0 -

Would you go to a job interview smelling of alcohol?0 -
Hi
If the advisor felt that you were under the influence of alchohol or any other substance they are within there right to terminate the interview.
At a diagnostic you would of been asked to sign your jobseekers agreement which is a legally binding contract and you cant do so under the influence0 -

Not at all. But being unemployed right now then perhaps you should have chosen one of the other moments you have available? JC employees, in common with lots of other employees, are advised not to deal with people under the influence of alcohol. It is not their job to determine whether you have had one or ten. The advisor acted quite appropriately, and the same thing would have happened had you attended our offices and we could smell alcohol.
And poking fun at someone else who is unemployed doesn't make you better than them - it makes you a sad individual who doesn't realise that you are, and may be for a very long time, in the same boat. Especially if you keep turning up places smelling of alcohol.0 -
I'd probably wish to have some "dutch courage" before my first visit (not exactly the most exciting thought is it?), but common sense says it's not the right thing to do.
next time you fancy a swift one, do so afterwards.
I also agree that you were really unfair on the poster above - no need for it really.0
