Morso Squirrel 1412 or Badger 3112

Hi guys,

I am hoping to purchase one of the above in 5kw variant, more for occasional use as a feature than to be run hard 24/7.

Just wondered if there is much difference in either of the above, in terms of build quality, controllability, ease of lighting, viewing window and fire box size etc.

Aware badger is slightly larger and appears to have different control options, but not sure how these translate to usage for a novice!

Any general advice appreciated.

thanks,

Kevin

Morso are very good stoves, sure you would be happy with either choice, probably comes down to which you prefer the look of and price.
The Badger is a bit more expensive.
Have you read the reviews on whatstove ?

based on the fact the bagder is about £300 more expensive (off the top of my head) and the fact you aren't going to be using it much i'd, in MSE style, suggest the Squirrel.

If you are in for a labour of love grab a bargain *cough*

I have just looked at both in the flesh and think i prefer the size of the squirrel, there is only about £120 difference from supplier i found but probably not worth me paying the extra. The charnwood country 4 has also just jumped into the running with its sleek looks, as has the aga little wenlock but as i need a defra approved multi fuel model the squirrel ticks all the boxes... It just looks a little industrial with its chunky door and air spinners, feels very solid though!

I have enough of a labour of love with the house i am currently fully renovating ha ha.

I have a thread down the page because I am currently looking for a small (5Kw max) defra stoves. If you are looking at other makes now then have a look at the hillanddale Monterey 5 and the Aarrow ecoburn 5, both designed and manfactured in England (so supports the economy as well).

I will choose one of these two after seeing them in the flesh.

Hhhmmm i am not convinced with British manufacturing and pricing. I tend to find you get a better quality product for less cash when you buy European. I have just bought a German hacker kitchen which after a bit of haggling with suppliers, have gotten cheaper than the UK manufactured howdens and wren equivalents. I work in the wind turbine industry and deal with various good German and Danish manufacturers yet there is still not a UK large scale manufacturer.

Last time I took a plane the RR engines did not fall off and if it was an Airbus the wings seem ok, the Range Rover that collected me seemed ok, the Sunseeker Yacht that I was entertained on was a must have and did not sink, then I watched the Monaco GP and the German Mercedes team for some strange reason use a British made engine in the back and got poll, then on the way back the Germans treated me to their absolute top of the range cars a Bentley and a Rolls Royce. I am sure I saw a JCB out of the window and it was working.

    Etc, etc, etc, etc.

Wouldn't that be because the Euro is approaching junk status?
