Ryanair mastercard inactivity fee

Hi,

In the MSE webpage regarding the Ryanair mastercard it says this:
"It's a bit dangerous to use this card to store cash until your next Ryanair flight, as after six months' inactivity there's a £2.50/month fee. However, you can avoid this fee if your balance is zero, "

I have looked at the Ryanair mastercard terms and conditions and do not find any clause saying that the fee is waived when the balance is zero. Does anybody know the source of this information?

Thanks,

Adrian

  • I think that if there is no balance, there is nothing to take, and it would be unfair to cause the balance to go negative just because of an inactivity fee. Therefore there should be no problem

The card is pre-paid. If there's nothing on it, they can't take anything, it's simple. They can't take money you don't have.

Now if it were a credit card where you agreed to credit that would be different !
  • I agree that that makes sense, but
A ten pound charge will be levied every time the card goes into negative territory because of the inactivity fee.

The terms and conditions for the Ryanair Cash Passport from R. Raphael & Sons indicate that a card with a zero balance will, after six months of inactivity, incur a charge of £12.50. Presumably, this money would be deducted from the balance once a top up took place. If ignored the debt would increase each month. R Raphael & Sons could legally pursue a customer for the debt, but would they bother?
  • 6 months without booking a wonderful £12 trip with Ryanair!!!!!
I get withdrawal symptoms after a week.
